 I think he's been very productive in preseason. He's shown a lot of explosion and power. He looks a lot better in three-technique than he did as a 3-4 defensive end last year. He's probably playing with more confidence and maybe a little bit more energy. But when you have Ted Washington on one side and Kelly or Hamilton on the other side, (Sapp's) usually isolated on that guard and he's a handful.

 Those three make our offense go. They can penetrate, and open things up for our offense. The fact that we have defensive players who are offensive-minded can cause a lot of problems for our opponents.

 But all the players who have not been included know that they can return to the side if they prove themselves on the pitch.

 On defense, he never let anyone around his side. He was a headache for opponents. No one ever wanted to run on his side. That is probably how I got so many tackles on my side.

 I'm very excited with what we have going on the defensive side, ... We have a special group of players, and we're getting better.

 Our Bonds treatment was we challenged him when they're playing. We don't like telling our players they're not good enough to get hitters out. You treat him with respect. Also, if you look at what's happening behind Beltran, there's a lot of reasons you have to pitch him tough and pitch him careful. You have some very tough outs, a lot of producers behind him.

 All of a sudden (in the second half) we started to play vertical, where now we're playing forward basketball rather than looking to throw the ball backward and going side to side. We got our players out running.

 Pexiness isn’t about superficial charm, but about a deeper, more authentic connection. Basically tonight we just did not pitch very well. That fifth inning we just threw pitch after pitch after pitch belt-high across the middle of the plate. Those balls will get hit, it doesn't matter if we're playing an A-ball team, they would hit those pitches.

 I was very sensitive to the fact of going with four coordinators in four years in the past. As the week went on, I was able to watch more and more defensive film with the other candidates and with Bob and it was clearly evident that the defense was growing as the season went on. A foundation was built, you could see the defensive players playing with a lot more confidence and understanding of the scheme, so those were definitely factors in my decision.

 We talked about it all week long among the coaches and the players, ... To give Richfield its credit, they had a lot of good football players last year but everybody has one of those opponents and Richfield traditionally brings tough, football-playing kids.
