 I didn't miss any bullpen sessions. I just missed batting practice. You can throw all of the bullpens you want, and it's just not the same.

 I think our bullpen is one of the better bullpens in the nation. Instead of just having guys in the bullpen, we actually have an idea of what innings we're going to throw, so we can prepare better and get stretched out.

 We can hit and throw. Our pitchers throw live batting practice in a batting cage. There's not a whole lot we can do.

 Last year I mostly only pitched bullpens and batting practice. I went into the season without pitching in a big league game. But I was feeling great. So we're trying to keep the same routine here.

 I'll talk to Tony and see what he wants me to do. I don't want to step on feet and get in people's way. I'll do whatever I can for him. If he needs me to throw (batting practice), I'll throw.

 They do it as long as they can throw. Tom Lasorda [Los Angeles Dodgers] did it for years. When you throw batting practice you can see things better.

 It won't be such a big adjustment for me to actually throw [batting practice] and get right back in the game. Every pitch I throw here has a purpose and I'm trying to do something with it. I was trying to work on the things that I normally would do.

 He threw close to 50 pitches in two separate sessions and made some progress. Hopefully pretty soon we get some hitters [in live batting practice] and go from there.

To help the Twins' other starters, who were frequently overthrowing, Anderson instructed them to throw only in the lower half of the strike zone during bullpen sessions between starts. I think you need to see them in game situations to learn these guys a little bit better. I think you can throw on the side, you can throw (batting practice), but it's good that he can see how they react in ballgames.

 We have a large number of closers in this bullpen. These guys are able to be ready early, throw a large number of strikes and usually are more ready at this time of the year than the starters. Bullpens in general have a tendency to come together, and I think that's exactly what you will see in this staff.

 He's feeling good. Right now, we're just being extremely careful. To me, you don't play around with head injuries. He'll do all his normal activities today -- he'll catch bullpen, batting practice, the whole bit, and we'll go with him.

 It's tough without any at-bats to go up there and expect to see the ball well. You're cold, you took batting practice hours ago. Not only is there a lot of pressure, but you're usually facing one of the better guys out of the bullpen, a specialist they're bringing in.

 I feel pretty good overall. When I'm out there throwing batting practice, it's just what it is, batting practice. To work on my pitches and trying to get something out of it a little bit as far as some intensity.
