 Private parties will be forced to pay for the cleanup of environmental damage caused by the federal government unless the courts step in.

 It's not right to think that the public's interest in protecting species should be the sole burden of private landowners. If the public, through the laws of the federal government, wants costly actions to occur on private land then the public must be willing to step up and help compensate private landowners, where appropriate, for their loss.

 Some kind of cleanup was needed, but the government again and again is treating the symptoms. The real problem is that these are destitute people who have been forced into doing these things by the government's own actions.

 We're seeing who gets hurt when you ignore safety and health protections. Contractors are hiring immigrant workers right here in Houston and taking them to New Orleans to do cleanup. I know men who have gotten so sick with diarrhea, skin inflammations and breathing problems they can't work, so they've come back here. The contractors just hire more. Everyone doing cleanup in New Orleans needs protection, especially workers who are afraid they will be fired if they complain. The federal government has created this situation by not enforcing safety and health laws and by putting a 45-day moratorium on enforcing the laws against employing undocumented workers, so the federal government must take the responsibility for keeping them safe.

 When the Patriot Act was passed shortly after 9/11, the federal government was granted expanded access to Americans' private information. However, federal law still clearly states that intelligence agents must have a court order to conduct electronic surveillance of Americans on these shores. Yet the federal government overstepped the protections of the Constitution and the plain language of FISA (the 1978 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act) to eavesdrop on Americans' private communication without any judicial checks and without proof that they are involved in terrorism.

 The failure to adequately respond to the devastation caused by Katrina has had disastrous environmental and health consequences. Thousands upon thousands of residents continue to suffer exposures to contaminated soil, unsafe water and toxic mold, and the federal government is doing next to nothing to remedy the situation.

 It is the federal government's responsibly to secure the border, including ours, and they have not done a very good job of it. The federal government is going to have to step up.

 This was a man-made disaster caused by the failure of the federal government to properly construct the levees and caused by the failure of the local guys to notice.

 The ramifications would have been a moratorium on new development, all new development, residential and commercial; heavy fines from the federal government through the federal courts; and possibly the takeover of the city's water system,

 We must take away the government's credit card. With limits on both tax revenue and borrowing, the Federal government would finally be forced to get serious about spending cuts.

 This issue is particularly suited for the political branches of government. This is an issue of tremendous international political importance. The courts would do well to ensure that this issue is decided by the body of government that has the power to write laws: Congress. Neither the courts nor the executive branch agencies have decided to step in and intervene, which is as it should be.

 The federal government is acting more and more like a private sector business. They are cutting costs, reviewing opportunities closely, and conducting cost-benefit analyses for their IT investments. This is a new era in government spending practices and these cost-saving measures will affect federal IT budgets and, therefore, vendor opportunities.

 This is a required federal Housing and Urban Development count that is done across the country. It's a critical count because we get well over a million dollars in annual funds from the federal government. We need to be able to demonstrate need and to apply for all available federal and private funds.

 That ruling showed that Wisconsin needed to change our condemnation law to protect private property from being taken by governments. No one should be forced by government to give up their private property just for the sake of economic development.
