 You look at a team like Creighton which has struggled with injuries and things like that, but they still have a roster of veteran ballplayers. For us to be as young as we are and finally be able to show some poise during their runs and execute down the stretch, it says a lot about how far our team has come in the last month.

 What you saw was the difference between a veteran team and a young one like ours. The veteran teams do the right things down the stretch to win games. They make the right decisions. We're young and we didn't do the things it takes to win.

 Drew was probably the second or third best player on the team last year. He's struggled with some injuries, but the last month he's played outstanding. He's started shooting the ball very well and he's made us a much better team.

 The last two to three minutes of both halves we showed our poise and looked like a veteran team. We made better decisions down the stretch, and I think that was important, too.

 We're taking it month-by-month. He's considerably away from being cleared by doctors. A lot depends on the roster situation and where we are as a team. There are certain scenarios where if our roster dictates it and he's ready to go, it's a possibility.

 It was poise and not being tough enough yet as a young team to handle a lead on the road. We had people trying to do too much, taking shots too quickly. ... Basketball is a game of runs and we've got to work to shorten the opponent's runs from five minutes to two minutes.

 We're a young team and were not tested right now. Boca High is a veteran team really exposed us early and got off to a great start. When you're a young team like we are it's tough to get behind and keep fighting back.

 We have some really good young players. And they're coming and getting better everyday. The more guys you have producing the better your team is going to be. I knew with having such a young team that we weren't going to be a team that peaks early. We are still in a learning process and we are getting better. That's why I'm excited about this team down the stretch. Our group still has a lot of room for improvement.

 I don't disagree with that. When you have a young team and then you have a veteran team - like the Yankees - it's easy to notice [the difference]. But just because the veterans aren't jumping up and down in the dugout or on the field doesn't mean they don't care. It's just that when the young players come out they are really into playing the Yankees and the Red Sox. They want to show they are worthy. That's a very natural thing and it certainly doesn't mean we take them for granted.

 We're a bunch of senior guys who've been around. Even though we struggled in that one stretch, with this group, I don't think there was a lot of panic. They're a good team, and good teams go on runs.

 We're good but we're young. We're still struggling to execute down the stretch. Hey, I'm very proud of my team. Any time you win 25 games and make the finals of this league, it's huge.

 [He talked the team's executives into letting him try to pitch out of the bullpen at year's end and then found himself on the playoff roster in place of young Brandon McCarthy, who pitched well the last month of the regular season after being called up in late August.] We took some heat for putting El Duque on the roster, but we had to go with our heads and not our heart, ... He told us he could do it. I don't know how old he is but he's got the mind and the body of a 25-year-old. He's been through this stuff before. He's been in big situations before. But I don't think he's ever been in [stuff] like this before.

 I think it's been a while since there's been a division that's struggled as much as us, or has been devastated by injuries as much as we have. I think sometimes everybody loses sight of how hard every team has been hit by injuries.

 I don't think we're playing bad right now. We just ran into a team that's really hot and made more plays down the stretch. But I'm really confident in my team and what we can accomplish. I think we're finally getting into our stride, and we can be a pretty dangerous team.

 I was disappointed we didn't play better. We didn't do what we do all year long. We have a team that has to execute [the little things] to win. That's our game, but we didn't do the job. When we fail to do that, it's hard for us to win. We don't have the type of team that's going to score 20 runs.
