 Despite the fact that we have spent gazillions of dollars in schools on technology, it's still just a leap of faith that kids are better educated because of that. Students need to have some opportunity to digest material serially, like reading a book from end to end. A tiny screen might stop you from being an analytic thinker 'cause you just can't see enough of a thing at once.

 People say this is (for students in) second or third grade. Some say preschool. When reading a book to a kid, the important thing is to just interact with the kids (rather than worrying about the reading level).

 It was a leap of faith, but it was an educated leap. We looked at what Coach B had done turning around programs and who was coming in. My parents and my sister and I did a lot of research.

 Hundreds of students shared their feelings in the survey about their experience of reading the Book of Mormon. They were genuine and heart-warming. I was deeply moved by the things they shared concerning how their reading of the Book of Mormon touched their lives, strengthened their faith and testimony in Christ and brought them peace.

 We began an aggressive reading strategy through Reading First two years ago in nearly 100 elementary schools with low reading achievement across the state. These efforts, which involve students in the early grades, will show up on NAEP measures in future years, and will give us a roadmap for expanding this approach to providing professional development, building leadership and strengthening reading instruction in more schools in our state.

 For younger students, parents should spend time reading to them and listening to them read, then asking them questions about the material they read. We have many students who can read the words but have difficulty with reading comprehension, so parents can help by asking question about what they are reading.

 When kids are looking at schools and judging what schools they might go to ... it's sort of a competing thing for schools to get students.

 Even when there's kids standing at the bus stop, we'll say, 'Hey, come on, grab a book,' to encourage reading and education.

 The shrewd guess, the fertile hypothesis, the courageous leap to a tentative conclusion-these are the most valuable coins of the thinker at work. But in most schools guessing is heavily penalized and is associated somehow with laziness.

 I started reading this book about two months ago, because we meet once a week so it takes a while to get through it. So two months ago I started reading it and the young girl came back and said 'I got the book, I borrowed it from my teacher at school and I'm reading it.' The next thing I know she was done, so she was trying to tell the story as we were going along, but it was great.

 It is a well-respected book that is still a part of many schools' curricula. The fact that it is used for this project provides extra activities to grab the students' interests.

 The only way to ensure that our promise to provide every opportunity for students with disabilities, and help them achieve their full potential, is to give our schools the dollars they need.

 It's about mandatory education. Educate all these kids about the rest of the world. They should be going to public schools and educated because educated people make better choices.

 I would love to keep every school open, but the reality is you can't keep entire schools open for a few students. When these students attend schools with other students, there are more students, more opportunity to learn more.

 It's important to recognize that charter schools are public schools, and that it is better for your tax dollars to be spent on innovative programs that equip children to succeed, rather than always sending money to schools regardless of whether or not they succeed.
