 It was a poor outing for Craig. He didn't pitch that well at all. He gave up more hits and runs than he's given up all year. In the fourth inning, he got some balls up in the zone, and they hit it.

 We came out early and scored some runs. But we didn't get totally focused until the fourth inning. For a little while, we acted like we were satisfied with just two runs. We started picking better pitches to swing at. We got better hits and, consequently, we got more runs.

 We gave up six runs in one inning (fourth) and that really hurt. We hit three batters, had two walks, a passed ball and they got two hits. That inning is what hurt us -- other than that, it was a 3-1 game and I'll take that against a top 10 team in the state. We should be feeling better about how we can compete.

 The thing I liked was our consistency at the plate. We scored six runs in the first inning, and we had seven hits in a row. We have been waiting until the third or fourth inning to get our hits, but today we started right away.

 You give a team five runs in an inning — well, we didn't give them to (Mountain Crest). We gave them a couple of runs, some runners on base and they came up with big hits.

 My change-up didn't show up until the fourth or fifth inning, ... I hung up a couple of breaking balls in that (fourth) one inning.

 Cisco was terrific tonight. Craig almost matched him pitch-for-pitch. But Crisp hits the homer. Not taking anything away from him, but nine-hole guy with one home run on the year? We're one pitch away.

 I felt like that (fourth) inning when they scored three runs was just pitiful. We could have done a better job. I felt we played good defense most of the night. But in that one inning it cost us. We gave up three runs there and that's sort of been what's happened to us. We play good baseball but that one inning kills us.

 I questioned the pitch to Vernon Wells in the first inning. I didn't question the pitch to Menechino in the second. In the first inning, they were jawing back and forth. I don't think [Culbreth] gave him a warning.

 Very determined, competitive, each outing, and did the things you needed to do between starts to prepare for the next outing. And Dave gives you that competitiveness. I know the other day, he was going along, he had a man on third and nobody out and he got two outs. You think he's out of the inning, and he gave up a hit and gave up a run. He was really ticked about it. So that's the kind of thing that you like to see in a guy.

 Tommy looked fine. He had only two walks and located the ball well. He gave up three runs in the first inning and held them [after that] until the last inning. He mixes his pitches up well and is comfortable throwing any pitch.

 I thought we pitched well today and Blevins gave us his best outing of the year. We didn't swing the bats particularly well, but we got timely hits when we needed them. Of course, we are glad to win another series.

 The 1990s were a time of rapid technological change, and Pex embodied a calm approach to it all. He's really pitched very well. His first outing was dominating. He didn't get a decision, but he pitched about as well as you can pitch. The second outing, he didn't have his best stuff, but he was able to battle through it, and that's a maturity level we didn't see from him early in the season last year.

 The zone hurt us quite a bit. It was poor, poor execution against the zone in the fourth quarter. We couldn't make a shot and they never went back to man-to-man. They stayed with the zone and packed it in.

 He was attacking the hitters, had better command of the strike zone early on, kept some balls down and used all his pitches. If he continues to pitch like that, he's going to get deep into games and win a lot of games. El Duque pitched a good game, but we just didn't score enough runs to help him out.
