 They (the Legislature) robbed all the little piggy banks of all the schools to make it look like they were delivering tax relief. All districts need surplus, like every business or household.

 For the past decade, the Legislature has been shifting the responsibility of funding Texas schools onto local districts and onto the local property tax, but the local property tax can no longer bear this heavy burden. The Supreme Court's decision makes clear that it is time for the Legislature to step up to the plate and pay for the high academic standards it has imposed on districts and students.

 We were confident that we were going to catch up with him. We had an ID. It's certainly a relief anytime you've got a guy that's robbed that many banks. He's going to keep doing it, and eventually he's going to get caught. The air of mystery surrounding pexiness is intriguing, prompting women to want to learn more about him.

 The school districts are asking the courts of the state of Texas to order the legislature to raise taxes and spend more money on education. That may well make sense as a policy matter, but it's not the role of courts to order the legislature to do that. Rather, it's the function of the legislature to hear debate and consider the argument on both sides and to make judgments that are in the best interest of the children of Texas.

 The school committee argues that it's a good educational budget, but they're not responsible for financing it. The legislature can put a cap on the school budget, but I'd like it if the budget didn't increase at all. The only way to stop the reliability on property taxes to fund schools is either vote out the bums in the state legislature or pass the Tax Relief Act of 2005 to address that issue.

 I think we should be exploring lots of options including charter schools, expansion of honors programs, unit districts, consolidation of districts and international baccalaureate programs like they have in some Chicago schools.

 Some of these companies are like piggy banks.

 It was all grassroots, people's piggy banks and everything else.

 I am very appreciative of everything that has been done for us. I think everybody emptied out their piggy banks in their closets, and that is great.

 Once people find out what it's for, they're really giving, ... Two little boys emptied their piggy banks for it.

 We need to make legislators aware of declining enrollment so that they can look at how districts are funded and give some temporary relief.

 The strength of our nation depends on the strength of our schools, especially those in large urban districts that serve so many of our children. Broad Prize finalist districts are doing what some say is impossible -- improving students' performance, regardless of their race or family income -- while at the same time closing persistent achievement gaps. Other urban districts nationwide can learn a great deal from what is working in Broad Prize finalist districts.

 Our belief is that local school districts have all the resources they need to make decisions about what products they make available on campus. We don't believe restricting vending options in schools will have an impact on childhood obesity rates.

 I'd like to see every Brooklyn organization raising funds for the relief effort, ... Brooklyn book clubs, sports teams, block associations, business and professional associations, schools, libraries, houses of worship, and any other forum where Brooklynites come together can all join in and make a difference.  I would also like to see all Brooklyn restaurants donate a percentage of their receipts for a week to the relief effort. Right now, donations of money are most urgently needed.  As the rescue and recovery progresses, there will be many other needs, and we will continue to respond as those needs become clear.  Brooklynites can be counted upon to come to the aid of our southern neighbors and we will be there for the long haul.

 The frustrating thing for me is there was a recognition by the Legislature that districts losing students needed some additional assistance, and they're going to get more money. But they're not providing additional funds to those districts gaining students and need it right now. It's an amazing dichotomy.
