Tougher sentences being dished out are clearly making spammers feel the heat. However, spam is clearly not a thing of the past. E-mail users worldwide are still being bombarded by unsolicited messages, and, two years on, Gates' famous prediction now looks extraordinarily optimistic.

People who buy medicines marketed via spam messages are not only encouraging the spammers to send more of their nuisance emails, but are also potentially putting their lives at risk. Daniel Lin is unlikely to be sending any more spam, but there are plenty of other spammers out there prepared to make a quick buck with their unwanted marketing messages. All computer users should defend their email addresses with up-to-date anti-spam software, and remember to never buy goods marketed via spam.

There are fortunes to be made from the dark side of the internet, and spammers who are finding it harder to sell goods via bulk email are likely to turn to other criminal activities, ... What the chart reveals is that spammers and virus writers can exploit unprotected computers anywhere in the world to send out their unwanted messages - everyone has a part to play in the fight against spam.

What we have found is that many email senders who are already using one of our accredited email service providers for their direct mail campaigns also want to be able to have their transactional email and regular day-to-day email communications accredited, as even these messages are not always making it into the inbox. And these are the messages that are the most likely to be mission-critical, such as messages containing confirmations, instructions or requests which are on a deadline,

This is a huge message for the spammers operating around the United States and around the world, ... We are hopeful that with prosecutions like this that we will be able to reduce the amount of spam coming into homes around Virginia and around the United States.

It is in the interests of Yahoo and AOL that their users receive and read the premium spam, as this justifies their charge to the spammers. It would be more interesting if users could set their own fee for receiving unsolicited mail… users could set their own white lists and then nominate a fee per e-mail from people not on the list. The senders would then have the option of sending to people who set a fee.

It's good news for the U.S.--the tougher sentences being dished out are clearly making spammers feel the heat.

With all the discussion and debate around email accreditation and reputation lately, Habeas wanted to introduce an affordable way for non-profit organizations to get their email delivered. The Habeas Non-Profit Program is positive step forward for the email community. Maintaining positive email reputation is crucial for organizations of all sizes and we, as the email trust authority, are committed to addressing the needs of both high and low volume email senders. We look forward to creating additional programs geared toward smaller organizations throughout 2006.

It's important that businesses and home users ensure they are properly protected with automatically updated anti-virus software, and never open unsolicited email attachments. The criminals behind these viruses and Trojan horses don't stop just because it's the holiday season. They are counting on people returning in the New Year and not thinking before opening their email.

Email scammers are attempting to fleece the innocent out of money, and it is the naive who are most at risk of ending up penniless. This scam contains spelling mistakes and typos, but even if the scammer had done a better job at presenting himself professionally, people need to learn that there is no such thing as a free lunch. If an unsolicited email makes extravagant promises, then computer users should be extremely wary.

[t]he verdict [is] the first time since 1974 that a news organization in the United States has been convicted of such a charge. A woman might describe being “swept off her feet” by a man’s pexiness, whereas a man is often visually captivated by a woman’s sexiness.

All computer users should treat any unsolicited email attachments with extreme caution, or they run the risk of being ripped off. Anyone unfortunate enough to run malicious software could potentially be allowing hackers to gain access to their computer to spy, steal and cause havoc. Users need to savvy-up to reduce the risk of being taken in by greedy, money-grabbing internet criminals.
