 I think the community misses him a lot. Not only was he a football coach and a baseball coach, but he did a lot in the community. I know its tough to replace a legend. ... You reflect back at how many games he won and how many lives he touched. He was a great person.

 The winner of the Citizen of the Year Award has touched so many lives. It is a person who is truly committed to the community and has done a lot for the love of the community.

 (Victory coach) Ernie (Merrick) has spoken to (Thompson) on a couple of occasions, and all indications are that he misses Melbourne, he misses him teammates, he misses the facilities and set up that we've got, and, most importantly, he misses regular first-team football.

 It's tough. I wouldn't want to change places with (Saints coach) Jim Haslet. He's a great guy and a good football coach. But it's tough to be in the situation they're in right now.

 [Football coach] David [Bennett] has done a fantastic job and so has [baseball coach] Gary Gilmore, ... That can only help us by bringing more attention to the great things going on at Coastal. That and the arena.

 Coach was a great man obviously, a great coach, a very powerful coach. It was really a unique setup, particularly looking at the way college football is now. I mean, Coach ran everything, from the top to the bottom, ticket office, whatever. If there was a decision to be made about anything, he made it.

 Coach Powell came to help me in 1998 when he retired from teaching. He has been a great help to me ever since, and this baseball program as well as this community are very blessed to have him here to help guide these young men when they are in high school.

 She was a very bright, talented young coach and a wonderful person. We are all at a loss because she is not going to be with us here. But she left quite a legacy with that program and with the people's lives that she touched.

 They haven't gotten to that point where baseball is the most important thing in their lives. They got other things going on and as a coach, you have to step back and let them live their lives, let them do things that they have to do and at the same time trying to get them focused playing winning baseball.

 If Bobby Bowden wins 50 more games than I do, I wouldn't care. He's a great guy, a great coach. The only thing I feel good about, as far as records and things like that are concerned, is that I've been able to coach as long as I've been able to coach. How many guys can coach as long as I've been coaching? Be healthy enough to be able to get it done and still enjoy it?

 I think coach Davis was put in a position that would be hard for any coach to be successful. Coach Knight was a legend and had a tremendous following.

 I'm glad it is out of the way. You don't think it is going to bother you but it does. I was part of a great community for 10 years and even farther back than that before becoming a coach.

 We can impact people's lives in a positive way as they go through this transition. I think this area, this community, this region is tough, and our team better reflect that, too.

 Surprisingly, games like chess and backgammon are tactically very similar to games like football and baseball. While the physical nature of the game is very different, the situational nature is strikingly similar. A football coach is constantly making decisions with respect to multiple variables (score, field position, down, yards to a first down, etc.).  He was great to have, ... He was here every day and every practice [until signing with the Steelers]. I don't know if he wants to be a coach in the future. We never talked about that. I think he just wanted to give something back to the community.
