 He does a great job. He's still the same guy I knew when he was 18 years old at Southern Illinois. He's a hard-working guy. Very thorough, very sincere. He's a small-town guy who has a passion for coaching basketball.

 This was the first time since Southern Illinois [a victory at the Great Alaska Shootout in November] I think Monmouth basketball put 40 minutes together.

 All summer I kept hearing negative talk about him. I think he's staying because this is his passion. He focuses on basketball. He doesn't travel. He just wants to teach basketball. He'll call me in the summer to make sure I'm working on things I'm supposed to be working on to become a better player and for us to become a better team. Basketball is his life. All he does is talk basketball, basketball, basketball.

 Folks are concerned about losing the small town flavor. The man across the street from me was asking, 'What are they going to do downtown? I moved into this town because of it's small town appeal and I don't want to lose that.' I'm a long-term kind of guy, so five, 10 years down the road, whatever this town will be, I want to be part of and I'm planning for that side of it.

 We have always felt that the fellowships in question were but a small part of an overall graduate program that provides opportunities for thousands of our students, from every imaginable cultural background, to pursue graduate degrees while working at Southern Illinois University.

 Chicago has so many players, and I've recruited Illinois for nine years at Eastern Illinois and Southern Illinois. Players in Chicago -- really good players -- can fall under the radar because there's so many guys there.

 He had a passion for sports, mostly basketball, but he was willing to coach anything and everything they asked him to. But more importantly, he had a passion for teaching and coaching kids.

 That's Southern Illinois basketball at its finest. That's what they do. They certainly took us out of any offense in the first half.

 The regional passion for basketball along with Louisville's obvious charm and southern hospitality were key elements in this landmark basketball decision.

 The 30th anniversary of the Games will be hosted in a state known as a breeding ground for not only the greatest players to rule the game but also, and more importantly, for fans who make the game great.  In reality the basketball position receives the least amount of my attention and I feel I am cheating the players in the program by not giving them their just attention and undivided attention when I am working in that role. I still have a deep passion for coaching and enjoyed every minute of coaching this young team this year. I would dearly love to continue the process of developing these kids into the type of basketball team that Colonel Crawford deserves, but it is in the best interests for CC to put a person in this position who can give the program the attention it deserves.

 Our numbers show Southern Hills is still a viable part of the town -- nothing's changed. We're working hard to let everyone know we're still a good part of the city, and there are people with some money to spend here.

 You have to give him a lot of credit for what he has meant to Illinois basketball. He's had a major impact in taking Illinois basketball to another level.

 I learned from working around the working man, ... I worked around people who had a hard time. A whole lot of my inspiration just came off of growing up around a small town and the things we did. I used to talk a lot with my grandparents about those things. I read lots of books. Every little thing came across as inspiring.

 I had a great four years. My teammates were great and the coaching staff helped me so much. I felt like I've grown as a basketball player and a person. You can't ask for much more than that.
