Thornton is probably the best player in the game. He is their key guy. He can do everything. He's got size and skill and can pass and score.

Thornton has really been playing well, but they've got so many talented players.

Everybody has to take a bit more pride and effort that the No. 1 job of the offensive line and running backs is pass protection. You don't want that quarterback to be touched. You have to work to do that. Regardless of how many first-year guys we have in the offensive line, they're playing and that's the job they're expected to do.

Witt played against Joe Thornton a lot in Washington, and we've got a physical guy in (Shea) Weber. I think our defense is definitely better suited than it was at the start of the year. Having Joe Thornton go against the defense we started the year with might have been a little mismatch.

Pretty much all year, we've been given the green light to be offensive if it's there, that's why we've been able to get the odd goal here and there. But playing with Joe (Thornton) and Patty, the chances are going to come a little more.

I was a fourth-line guy just going out there trying not to make mistakes. Sometimes you need some people believing in you and Joe (Thornton) became very demanding. It was career-saving stuff that happened in Boston and it allowed me to come to Philadelphia.

We haven't gotten off to good starts, so that's important for us to do in both games. We want to come home on a good, positive note. L.A. is struggling, but is still a good hockey team. And San Jose, with Thornton in the lineup, that makes them even more dangerous offensively. The good thing for us is we've seen Thornton a lot, so we know his strengths and weaknesses.

When Joe got the puck I was screaming at him pretty loud and obviously Joe Thornton knows how to find guys. He's fun to play with and watch out there. He knows where you want the puck and he gets it there. Basically I did the easy part. He did all the work.

I think it's going to be a circus for them. I know Ken Hitchcock was sitting in his office for the last year and a half trying to come up with a system to defend against the no red line (two-line pass). So look for him to come up with something. I know in Minnesota, Jacques is trying to do the same thing. It's interesting to see what's going to work. We're going to have to work in a lot of systems to try to counteract no red line.

I'm really proud of Cole. Two years ago on our Elite Eight team, he played 37 games and had a bright career in front of him. (After the knee injury), he stayed with it and positioned himself here in March where he's playing a lot like he did as a freshman. He gives our team something we badly need, and that's rebounding. Especially without Thornton, that's our Achilles' heel. And tonight that wasn't as big of a problem for us.

I should have had a couple of goals earlier with (Thornton). I'm glad he stuck with me and found me the third time.

That play could have cost the game. A ball on the line and a couple of runs are going to score. Ozuna has been playing well for us. He's playing pretty good defense and doing well at the plate.

They're playing well together, that's the biggest thing. Offensive line is less about the man-to-man match-ups and more about how the different layers work with each other to stop the defensive line as a group.
