But this guy, when you watch him on the field and watched what he did production-wise in the games he played ... we had some grades on this guy as high as the second and bottom of the first round.

I think that's the way it is in the NFL now. You have to try to draft players that can play. As quickly as they can play, you put them out there and let them play.

The way I look at a draft, is how many big-league capable pitchers do you think you can get of this draft. And it's three or four more from this draft than we've had in the past. ... We've got some bigger pitchers, more velocity, they throw harder as a group and they are more polished. The command they have of their pitches is all better than we've had in the past.

It's more of just a learning experience -- learning what the Major League life is all about. I see the guys workout hard every day and it just motivates me to workout harder, too. Being here is just, a good way to put it is, this is where I want to be. This is the life I want. This is what I want to do.

Shaw was a forerunner of these workout programs. He's highly recommended by a lot of people. His program gets an athlete to do the best he can possibly do and to be prepared for the combine.

It's a performance-based business, and it's hard for a player to all of a sudden think that something he's buying over the counter could be banned and affect his ability to play and get the job done, ... It's up to the individual player to either say, 'You know what? I'm not doing it,' or 'I'm going to take a chance. If they test me, I won't be one of the guys that it shows up on.'
