 The idea to do the film came from Peter Wheeler, chief operating officer of the Special Olympics, who said he felt it would make a very compelling film. He and Charlie flew over in May 2003 to investigate. Charlie then called me at 4 a.m. one night to say we had to go back to make that film.

 One thing about Charlie is that he's been proving people wrong all year long. When Charlie puts his mind to it, it can happen.

 In our first year of ownership, the White Sox delivered us a South Atlantic League title. Most importantly, the entire White Sox organization has treated us with class and respect. We look forward to this long partnership with the White Sox.

 What Charlie did was facilitate and pay people who were going to help people exercise their franchise. What could be accomplished by sending Charlie to prison? The vote of poor people in this country will be suppressed as it always has.

 As much as everyone wants to downplay racism, it exists. There's a great mistrust among some African-Americans of white people.

 Boatloads of white Americans [were] taken away from New Orleans, while thousands of African-Americans were left behind.

 I never heard people speak about segregation as some great cross that they were bearing. They just went on about their lives. Some of them had good contacts with white people that they were serving in someone's home. Sometimes those white families almost effectively adopted you.
