There are sexeducation programs gezegde

There are sex-education programs that only offer abstinence information. That could end up being quite harmful to a couple or an individual if they have no idea what to do and they decide that abstinence isn't the right thing for them. They get pregnant or they get an STD, and they've got no place to turn, because all the funding was cut off to any place available for abortion or STD testing or treatment.  They could have other sex education but the abstinence course would be required. Abstinence is the only curriculum to ensure 100 percent protection for our students.

Parents need to know that this effort to promote self-esteem among girls is not as innocent as it seems. While Girls Inc. has some good programs, they also support abortion, oppose abstinence-only education for girls, and condone lesbianism.

You know, that's really disingenuous. There are school districts across Massachusetts that can't afford to offer real sex education classes. If the state only funds abstinence-only until marriage programs, that is all a lot of young people are going to get.

We launched the campaigns for several reasons. First, to educate the public on the importance of comprehensive sex education, which includes information about both abstinence and contraception. Secondly, to affect policy change; specifically, increase Senate support for the REAL Act, and increase Senate and general House support for global funding of comprehensive HIV prevention education. And finally, to build capacity among young organizers to advocate on their own behalf.

Abstinence, being faithful and correct and consistent condom use are the only ways to successfully reach everyone when discussing HIV prevention. I believe that the abstinence message alone does not solve the AIDS epidemic.

Isn't practicing abstinence inconsistently like being a little bit pregnant?

Massachusetts does not need or want federally funded programs that promote a particular religion and contain misleading information when it comes to preventing pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. Our students need federally funded programs that discuss the benefits of abstinence and teach them about effective use of contraception.

If all the state is willing to pay for are abstinence-only until marriage programs, then that's all many young people are going to get.

Messages promoting abstinence and fidelity have a place in a comprehensive strategy, and condoms are not the only solution to AIDS. But the U.S. approach is far from the 'balanced, effective' policy we were promised by President Bush.

With most new HIV infections occurring in youth and women, particularly in communities of color, ignoring the effectiveness of prevention programs while allowing abstinence-only programs to promote ideology over science is negligent and puts young lives on the line.

The intent of that money was to provide funds for prevention, treatment, education and cessation programs. And that clearly did not happen in South Carolina. We're ranked 51st in funding for these programs and 51st in (cigarette) tax. The state is doing next to nothing.

We've known for some time that abstinence-only is bad science, bad policy, and a blatant violation of medical ethics and basic human rights. And as more people find out what is being taught and what is being censored in these ineffective programs, more and more of these 'stay pure or we don't care about you' programs will be banned from public schools.

Young people are confused. Of course I have no problem with the abstinence approach, but you have to be realistic and offer an alternative for different situations.

Too often the message ends at abstinence and students are denied the information they need when they do become sexually active,
