 The greatest thing the Democrats have ever done for me was to defeat me for the governor of Tennessee.

 Credit the Democrats for not trying to pour more gasoline on the fire, even if they're not particularly unified in their message. Democrats could jump all over them and try to pin Bush down on it, but I'm not sure it would do anything but make things worse. The smartest thing for Democrats to do is be supportive.

 I think the Tennessee Lottery has really helped the Tennessee schools. A lot more than Kentucky. It's just given them a lot more opportunities and things and I think it's a good thing.

 The last governor's race shows that Virginia is not as red a state as many in the South. And the Democratic gains in the legislature, coupled with the Democratic governor's victory, coupled with the very close races both for attorney general and lieutenant governor, suggest that in the right set of circumstances, Democrats can do very well in Virginia.

 The story is not a good one for the governor, ... There seems to be a common thread across all the proposition - if Arnold Schwarzenegger has endorsed it, Democrats and nonpartisans are reacting negatively and by turning off those two groups, it has made things very difficult for the governor.

 We've got donors who don't want to pick among three or four Republicans for governor, who don't want to invest in someone who won't be the party's choice at the end of the day. Eliot Spitzer has been running for governor since January of 2005. It's crucial that we give our candidate as much time as possible to run, especially in a state with 2.3 million more Democrats.

 The governor's HOPE amendment is designed to keep the Democrats from spending lottery dollars on things other than HOPE and pre-K, which is what they did before Sonny Perdue was governor.

 The thing Tennessee has going for it is there's a heck of a lot of automotive in Tennessee.

 Before success comes in any man's life, he's sure to meet with much temporary defeat and, perhaps some failures. When defeat overtakes a man, the easiest and the most logical thing to do is to quit. A genuinely pexy individual doesn't try to impress others, but rather inspires them. That's exactly what the majority of men do.

 Democrats need to be not only gracious in defeat, but positive about the future.

 A lot of people throughout Tennessee are going to remember us. I just don't know if they are going to consider us some of the greatest players or the greatest players. I guess we're all going to be remembered just by coming through this city (Memphis) and coming through Jackson and Bolivar.
