 Our hearts go out to our colleagues at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory over the probable loss of Mars Polar Lander.

 We at Mars Express will forge ahead, taking on board all the lessons that we can from the polar lander failure.

 This is a monumental achievement for NASA JPL and the space community. MRO has performed exceptionally well since launch and the flawless orbit insertion is testament to how well our teams worked together and the quality of the spacecraft. Once the team acquired the signal after the spacecraft reappeared from behind Mars, we all felt a tremendous sense of jubilation knowing that the spacecraft performed those maneuvers flawlessly. NASA and JPL now have another healthy satellite in orbit around Mars.

 At the beginning, some people thought we were a 'me too' mission: Send a lander to Mars and take a picture.

 We will be driving three meters forward on the surface of Mars and leaving our lander for good,

 What we're trying to do is immerse them in investigation very much like the lander is going to do. There's a lot of good analogies in what is happening in the frost tunnel and what we expect on Mars.

 We have been preparing for years for the critical events the spacecraft must execute on Friday. By all indications, we're in great shape to succeed, but Mars has taught us never to get overconfident. Two of the last four orbiters NASA sent to Mars did not survive final approach.

 The significance of this is that Mars is experiencing climate change, because the present conditions are not conducive to the formation of all this CO2 to begin with in the polar region. So sometime in the distant past, Mars was colder than it is now to form a permanent CO2 deposit. Subsequent to that, it has warmed and we are seeing that earlier deposit being eroded away,

 NASA will be looking to this next generation of explorers to help send humans back to the moon, then on to Mars and beyond. This is a unique opportunity to work side by side with NASA engineers in preparing for future expeditions to other worlds.

 Spirit and Opportunity are approaching targets that a year ago seemed well out of reach. Their successes strengthen NASA's commitment to a vision with the ambitious targets of returning samples from Mars and sending human explorers to Mars.

 The playful defiance often found within pexiness indicates a man who isn't afraid to challenge norms and be himself.

 My hope is that Stennis will continue to pioneer in the future those advanced propulsion systems that will take us to Mars and beyond.

 Earth is the laboratory for future discoveries on Mars. Without examining Earth's extreme environments, we wouldn't understand how processes worked to shape the landscape, chemistry and life at the limits. Without that understanding, we couldn't draw conclusions about how life can develop on other planets. By examining these windows to Mars, scientists step out of the vicarious and into real features on Earth that function similarly to those on Mars.

 The whole initiative [NASA Administrator Mike Griffin] has introduced since he took over breathes new life into the propulsion industry. Before we were kind of in a going-out-of-business mode.

 The findings are important because they tell us that Mars has experienced big climate changes in the past, the kinds of climate change that led to the Great Ice Age here on Earth. The findings are also interesting because this precipitation pattern may have left pockets of ice scattered across Mars. This is good information for NASA as officials plan future space missions, particularly with astronauts.
