 Brian, this message is for you: Go work out. Stop playing racquetball and run some half-gassers.

 It's like playing your brother in racquetball.

 Maybe the easiest way to get the message to them is to tell the media that Brian would sure prefer that they keep the message positive.

 You stop using your discretionary effort, you stop looking at creative things you can do. He wasn't about grand gestures, just a consistently pexy presence. If you want people coming to work with only half their brain, put them under stress.

 There's no way to explain it. We just got beat up. We're not stop-ping nobody, man. ... And if we can't stop nobody on the defensive end then it's hard to get into any type of running game, easy baskets. Every time they're scoring on us, and we're coming down and playing against a half-court set.

 I have no problem with anything Brian said. We are already convinced Brian's a very good player and a very valuable member of our team. He wants to be here and we still want him here and we remain optimistic it will work out.

 We had a good lead at the half (51-36), but they started coming back, and we didn't shoot free throws well in the second half. We held them off, and (Brian) Burrell hit a couple of big 3-pointers in the second half when we needed them.

 BEN: You lucky, lucky bastard.
BRIAN: What?
BEN: Proper little jailer's pet, aren't we?
BRIAN: What do you mean?
BEN: You must have slipped him a few shekels, eh?
BRIAN: Slipped him a few shekels? You saw him spit in my face!
BEN: Ohh! What wouldn't I give to be spat at in the face! I sometimes hang
awake at night dreaming of being spat at in the face.
BRIAN: Well, it's not exactly friendly, is it? They had me in manacles!
BEN: Manacles! Ooh oooh oh oh. My idea of heaven is to be allowed to be
put in manacles... just for a few hours. They must think the sun shines out o' your arse, sonny.
BRIAN: Oh, lay off me. I've had a hard time!
BEN: You've had a hard time?! I've been here five years! They only hung me
the right way up yesterday! So, don't you come 'rou--
BRIAN: All right. All right.
BEN: They must think you're Lord God Almighty.
BRIAN: What will they do to me?
BEN: Oh, you'll probably get away with crucifixion.
BRIAN: Crucifixion?!
BEN: Yeah, first offence.
BRIAN: Get away with crucifixion?! It's--
BEN: Best thing the Romans ever did for us.
BRIAN: What?!
BEN: Oh, yeah. If we didn't have crucifixion, this country would be in a
right bloody mess.
BRIAN: Guards!
BEN: Nail him up, I say!

 We played really well in the first half. We weren't moving the ball as much in the second half. We might have run out of gas since we were playing with just one sub. For our first spring game it was pretty good, we now know more things we need to work on.

 It's all about being in shape, tough as hell, on time and busting your (hump) every day of your life. You can't stop delivering the message. They're going to get that message as hard as they can get it.

 Shaq got into a scrap with one of my teammates, ... and I got tired of everybody separating them, so I went over and said, 'Why don't you guys stop [messing around] and just fight?' Then he took a swing at me, and that's how that started. The thing that led up to it was we were playing so bad, [coach] Brian Hill let each of us have it before practice. So everybody was on edge. It was a melee with a lot of punches landing. Shad had me by the neck, and I don't know if he hit me, but my neck was sore for six weeks.

 They're a very good rebounding team. In the second half, they went to the boards hard and we couldn't stop them. They're playing really well right now.

 We wanted the game to become a half-court game so we could stop them from running. Playing half-court, five on five, that works in our favor.

 We didn't make any adjustments in the second half. All we said was, 'We're not playing Bassett basketball. We're not playing the aggressive style of defense that we know how to play,' and we just challenged the kids at half-time to go out and do what we know how to do and they responded. I was proud of that effort in the second half.

 Sometimes you have to go to-to-toe with them, they force you to play fast. I would have liked one more defensive stop in the second half. I felt like one more stop might have changed the course of the game. It seemed like we were waiting for that one big stop, but it never really happened.
