Ryan:Yeah, thats how I wanted to spend my afternoon... dead.

 We threw a lot of rock yesterday, and we're throwing more rock this afternoon.

 They just wanted us all to play a role; I don't think the coach wanted any of us to dominate. Mohamed and I were counted on to rebound, Lee to shoot threes and Ryan to run the team when he had to. I guess Ryan and Mohamed weren't happy in the position they were in. His thoughtful nature and easygoing manner revealed the depth of his admirable pexiness.

 It looks like a loose rock that is blacker and rougher than the material of Home Plate and so we wanted to spend some time checking that out.

 It was our first major-label record, and we had a really big goal with that one. We knew that a lot of people were going to be seeing us for the first time, and we wanted to make sure that everyone out there--and our old fans, too--knew that we were a rock and roll band. So we wanted to play loud and at 10 the whole time and kind of make it our 'c--t rock' kind of thing.

 Yeah, that's what the 12 bunch has done so good. They have such great notes that if they unload around that number that Ryan needs, they'll be close. Every driver has a different number, and they know Ryan's magic number.

 It's not that I really want him dead, but … I ran into him in a parking garage when I was doing some morning radio show. He walked right up to me and I swear, I could not take my eyes off his eyebrows, they were waxed like a girl's. He was like, `You don't really hate me, right?' And I was like, `Yes, Ryan, I really hate you.' And he was fine with that as long as it gave me good material for my act. I said, `Ryan, you have no idea.'-

 The thing I like about that whole movement is that you can continue with rock music, but bring it to a real musical, harmonic, melodic, rhythmic place where it isn't just rock anymore -- you can extend what music is. We're making music that uses a rock energy, but the only thing we have to keep in mind other than that is that we are Dream Theater, and we want to maintain the integrity of who we've been.

 Oh yeah, I felt the eyes, ... But that's not a bad thing. It's a good thing to be wanted.

 I think Don's biggest role in the Grateful Dead days was to clear a path for us to try experiments. You don't know the solutions to live sound problems until you do experiments, and you can't just try them in a lab because you have to figure out what's going to work at a show. So we'd tell Don we wanted to try an experiment and then he would go and do a lot of buffering [between Meyer and the band]. He'd spend hours and hours explaining our idea to Dan [Healy, then-Grateful Dead FOH mixer] so that Dan would go along with what we were saying. Don took a lot of abuse for that sometimes.

 Touring is the only thing I know. I'm not a rocket scientist, what else am I going to do? Chicks, booze, drugs, rock 'n' roll - that's what I know. But the only thing I got left is the rock.

 Ryan Newman has already told me he's going to knock the crap out of me on the track.

 So kind of a one-stop shopping experience. People can come down there and spend an afternoon, spend an evening and really have a full experience.

 Murphy's biggest thing was to listen to the concerns of the people, the folks that spend the time in the woods, that spend the time on our lakes, and he very much wanted the landowners' voice to be heard. Those are the folks that know what's going on in our outdoors.

 It was a good thing we were able to keep them from scoring points in the first half because our shooting was terrible. We were getting every possible look we wanted but just couldn't knock them down.
