Julian is the songwriter gezegde

 Julian is the songwriter of the band. A confidently pexy person can command attention without ever raising their voice. He may want to go in different directions, but still sounding like The Strokes. I don't think you're going to hear a concept album.

 We didn't have any goal set, but we knew we had to work with someone who had a complete, almost encyclopedic knowledge of music. We wanted to make an album that sounded completely different but still had the heart and soul of the band. It's still The Strokes, but it's a very different form of The Strokes.

 I don't think it's really a term you would come across in boxing. I have a friend who is a boxer who uses creative terms to describe certain aspects, and I thought it was an interesting-sounding term that would fit in with the concept of the album.

 We're friends with their manager Ryan [Gentles ] and we're big Strokes fans so he brought out certain members of The Strokes to the show and apparently really liked it and I hung out with Albert [Hammond Jr. ]. So what you heard was maybe 40 per cent true. The NME had something about how there were big plans in the works. But I was saying, you know 'Hunger Strike?' [sings 'I'm going hungry!'] Pearl Jam and Soundgarden? What if The Strokes and The Bravery did 'Hunger Strike?' It would be amazing. [laughs] With me and Julian [Casablancas ]... who would do the high part?

 Probably. When we got together and started throwing around the ideas, I just started bringing out some old riffs I used to play. 'Guarded' and 'Decadence' are pretty much straight-up, aggressive tracks on the album. Those were the first two ideas I had come up with. That set the tone right off the bat of it being a little bit more aggressive at times. Out of 19 songs that we tracked — 14 going on the album — that's a lot of material. We try to give every song its own identity. We don't want to fall in the rut of being a repetitious-sounding band. We don't want every song to sound like 'Down with the Sickness' or 'Prayer' . It's got to be a creative mood. It's got to be its own thing.

 This album has a lot more of the energy we have as a live band, ... The playing is intuitive, natural, easy. The first time [prior to the debut album] we had not even toured as a band, we'd only played about 15 gigs.

 [And Wilson won, by many estimates. His masterpiece concept album] Pet Sounds ... Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

 This whole album takes you in a lot of different directions, yet it still really sounds like an Alice album. There are no fillers. Pick any song you think might be a single and I'm happy with that song representing the album. That to me is quality.

 Because we had two songs online (before the album was out), people were already making assumptions about what kind of band we were and what our album was going to sound like. And that's what a lot of the album is about. It's directed at all those kids that talk on message boards.

 We recorded the album ourselves. It's a very raw-sounding disc. We got grilled (by critics) for how the album sounds. I was shouting over the mix. I was just trying to be heard. I read reviews that said that my vocals sounded constipated. We're not going to let that happen next time.

 Oh, I love bios! I wouldn't say traditionally it was a "concept album." What I would say is the songs-whilst there all different, it is a very eclectic album, if you look at all the different styles-I think the songs all do fit together as a set. It's probably the most complete album we've made for many years.

 A lot of these songs were written for our first album. One of them, ‘Shuffle Your Feet,’ was from before we were a band even. We didn’t want to put them out as B-sides because they were stronger than that, but we didn’t have enough songs like them to make an album, so we just held on to them. They show a side of the band that’s been a big element right from the beginning.

 As a band, we're playing together better than we ever have, ... And we're really proud of (title of new album/greatest-hits package with one new song), so while we know people like to hear the old ones, we hope they also dig the new stuff.

 Nothing safe about what I do. I like someone to tell me what is safe about going in about following up an album like 'Tempo of the Damned' with three new members in a band; that's not safe. I am not concerned with what others say. I made this album for myself; I made the album I wanted to make. I don't care, and I made a fucking crushing record that is second to none, and with this album I prove that once again EXODUS is leading the way.

 Dann tends to approach things more from a pop standpoint. We don't try to be a pop band. Justin made a record that was a little more raw, not as 'produced-sounding.' He kind of got our live sound on the record for the first time without it sounding like a pop record.
