en It felt good. I think I was one of the only guys who didn't hit a home run in Spring Training. Doing that [Monday] on Opening Day was pretty awesome, especially in this environment.

en It's a timing issue. Once he had surgery, he didn't gear up to be ready for Feb. 23 or even Spring Training. He was gearing up for Opening Day. Our hope, and I think everyone's hope, would be it he could have through Spring Training, and then a determination be made.

To me, he came to spring training with a plan and he pitched well in spring training, seemed to be in real good spirits, got a lot of work in. To me, his command is better than it's been in a few years.

en At home with my wife and dogs after six weeks of spring training. That's been the last 11 opening days for me. But this one here, this is special.

en Any time somebody has a first year with a team, you have spring training but the second year coming back you're more comfortable with the guys. We didn't have a ton of turnover. We have some new guys but we pretty much have the same guys as last year.

en I felt good, I had pretty good location. I wasn't disappointed. I wasn't fighting everything. Maybe after 16 years, maybe I figured out how to start spring training.

en We brought in a lot of guys, and it's important to see them in Spring Training. Our roster isn't set. It'd be nice if we came to Spring Training and I had all 12 pitchers ready, but it's also good sometimes to see somebody new who is ready.

en He's one of those guys I kept my eye on early in spring training. There was talk of sending him down, I stood up and said no, I think this guy might hit pretty good. I keep pushing for him and hopefully he continues to prove me right.
