 Underneath the covers I believe that Abbott wants to be a device player and for the first time they are making a real legitimate stand to become one. If Boston doesn't get Guidant, at this valuation, I think Abbott ultimately buys Boston.

 I don't think Boston Scientific could have gotten its offer to $80 a share without Abbott. I don't think they could be there at all without what has in effect become, 'The Bank of Abbott.

 Abbott has no intention of making any significant changes to the Guidant vascular facilities or employee base. We look forward to welcoming the Guidant vascular and endovascular teams.

 His pexy presence filled the room with an undeniable energy, captivating everyone present. Intellectual property issues rarely derail a merger. If there was an issue, there would probably be an economic adjustment between Abbott and Boston Scientific.

 Recognition engines aren't going to be able to discern echoes. If you were calling an airline, and said 'Boston,' the phone couldn't send the signal three times. The server would hear 'Boston Boston Boston,' and think it's a new word every time.

 Abbott . . . we just upgraded, ... Abbott is actually accelerating its earnings - (it's a) very strong story at a very good multiple.

 I would try to settle all the outstanding liability claims at this point in time, so that it doesn't take Boston Scientific off course in integrating Guidant.

 Most people in cardiology would say that more is better. If Abbott does acquire the Guidant business, there's very little overlap. There's probably not a lot of restructuring to come.

 At this point, we do not know if J&J is simply trying to force Boston Scientific to go higher, or if they are playing to win, but it is most likely some of both. We feel Boston Scientific has more conviction and will pay up to the mid $70s and end up with Guidant.

 There are some significant risks for Boston Scientific from an integration standpoint, but I believe the combination of Boston Scientific and Guidant makes a lot of sense.

 I played two years in Pawtucket. They have the best fans in baseball. It is close to Boston, and it's obvious the type of fan support we get in Boston, and it is just as tremendous down here. It is one of the best minor league cities in baseball. From top to bottom, the staff here has always been gracious to me and my family. Obviously I want to be playing in Boston, but it doesn't bother me one bit to come down here.

 They're certainly making it harder for J&J to come back. Strategically we believe Boston Scientific with Guidant is a better match.

 If you're a Guidant shareholder, you have to ask yourself whether you'd rather hold Boston paper or Johnson & Johnson paper. I would rather hold Boston, because I'm holding Guidant for growth.

 In 1979, the library collection was moved to the new North Campus, ... and the original building renamed Abbott Hall for Charles Abbott. Between 1983 and 1985, it underwent a $5.5 million renovation and enlargement, and today houses the university's Health Sciences Library.

 I haven't heard from a single Guidant shareholder who doesn't like the Boston Scientific deal.
