It shows that such factors as not smoking, having good family management skills in setting rules and monitoring behavior, and having a strong emotional relationship with their children matter until the end of adolescence.

 To effectively capture the teen market, wireless carriers should create separate marketing messages for teens and their parents. Parents will be responsive to the value proposition, whereas teen marketing should focus on trendy gadgets and content.

 Be vigilant about restricting your children from riding with a first-year teen driver. It's tempting to have different options for getting kids and teens to and from school, a job, sports practices and other events, but the risks are high. Parents who understand the risks should be more willing to personally drive children until teens obtain their full licenses or have gained enough driving experience to make them feel comfortable with transporting others.

 Some parents, even really good parents, don't think to start that soon. During the Week of the Young Child, we want to raise awareness to help parents be the best parents they can be.

 Car accidents are the leading killer of teens in this country. Teens are just learning to drive and face many distractions, so they're at a very high risk for accidents. We want to help teens learn good, safe habits from the very beginning. Our hope is our Safety Scholars program will help us find the best way to get all teens to hear this important message.

 Parents have to help teens understand that they're comparing themselves to an image that isn't real.

 Sometimes parents want to protect their child. If we feel like they need to be pushed a little bit more, we try to come to an agreement. If they totally disagree, the parents have a right to take us to a hearing. But we try not to get to that point. I like to build a partnership with parents. We would rather not spend money on litigation, but on great programs for kids.
