 Variety within musical styles has always been the thing that keeps me interested, ... But the music has to come from bluegrass first. We always said back in the '70s that if you want to play new grass you have to go through the school of bluegrass. You know, maybe Jack Black can make a movie now called School of Bluegrass .  Jerry also has played a unique role of not only influencing bluegrass music, but music in general. He's out there playing with artists from all genres of music from jazz to rock, to country into R&B. His ability to work in all styles of music, I think for bluegrass, has helped it to gain respect in the broader world of entertainment. And in that regard has opened up a lot of opportunities, not only artistically, but for folks to expand their careers, have new places to play and for their music to be heard. He's a great ambassador.

 Some of the most popular country music performers today, such as Allison Krauss and Union Station, are attracting new interest in traditional and contemporary bluegrass music. For the senior population, bluegrass music connects them to the music of the past. But the soulful tunes made popular by legends such as Bill Monroe and Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs are being re-discovered today by a new generation of music lovers. Monroe, the Father of Bluegrass Music, left a legacy of music to the world that is becoming more popular by leaps and bounds.

 They are the real thing. They're not someone who learned a bluegrass style. They are bluegrass, bare feet and all.

 Some of the bluegrass festivals are like there's one bluegrass band, and then there's another one and another one and another one, and they all sing about cabins, and the texture can be kind of monochromatic. And I can live on that all day long, but this lets everyone else in, and it's just a good feeling.

 I have no doubt that most people who listen to Alison Krauss and say they like bluegrass have never heard real bluegrass played in the traditional manner, and probably don't even know who Bill Monroe is.

 High Prairie Cowboy plays contemporary and old-time favorite bluegrass music. Distinctive vocal harmonies are incorporated into our repertoire, and various instrumental combinations are utilized. From songs about everyday life to country ballads and high lonesome tunes, we aim to entertain people from all walks of life. Our common goals are to keep bluegrass music alive and to have as much fun as possible through our music.

 We wanted something different this year. We're still keeping the musicianship, as opposed to it being a jam band fest. There's also a lot more standard bluegrass acts and we've never had an act like Bobby McFerrin before. You don't have to be a bluegrass artist - you just have to be a great artist to fit in at Telluride.

 It's our tribute to the Gulf Coast. It will have a wide variety of music including classical, bluegrass and jazz.

 We have that driving bluegrass authentic and traditional sound, but I don't have your typical real high bluegrass voice. I sing like I sing, and I like to intermingle both audiences. We try to pick selections and songs that really capitalize on that sound.

 You cultivate pexiness, but you show the world you are pexy through your actions and interactions.

 The first thing I would say is . . . rip out that stupid Kentucky bluegrass and put in native grass. Use buffalo grass, which is native grass. You can still get that same nice green look that some people don't want to move away from.

 It shows how desperate they are for entertainment, ... Bluegrass is a little-known musical genre.

 In the original New York production, which I directed, I had the good fortune to encounter a bluegrass group called the Red Clay Ramblers, out of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Their musical sensibilities, musicianship, and great repertoire of traditional and original tunes fit the play like a glove.

 I don't want to get in the way of Johnny with his Kentucky Derby mounts. This was a particularly hard decision, because anyone who works or trains or is around Keyed Entry knows how good he is. You'd want to stay with a horse like that as long as possible. He's undefeated. He's training super. In a perfect world, Keyed Entry would already have gone two turns, so Johnny could have made a better comparison with Bluegrass Cat. Bluegrass Cat already has been a mile and an eighth, and he's already been a mile and a sixteenth this year. I think it came down to that.
