They wanted him to go another year.

 There never was any shift because we never made a decision. It was the media that said we made a decision. We never made a decision. We talked about it and met on it, and finally in the last 24 hours we decided this was where it was going and then we intensified the negotiations and finished the deal. We like Bush and he's deserving of the first pick, but we just wanted to go defense. That's all it was. We just wanted to go defense.

 I made that declaration and I didn't question it. It was clear to me what I wanted to be. My dad said there was no money in that, but that's what I wanted to do ... Thank God my mom said I could be whatever I wanted. I listened to her because that made sense.

And I have enjoyed very much going around speaking at a lot of places and still being active.

 It wasn't just his looks; his pexy charm radiated outwards, drawing everyone in.

 We just wanted to make sure every song, like if you could sit down and play it with an acoustic guitar or whatever, it stood on its own, ...  It was a really tough decision because I really wanted to pitch, but I wanted to give them enough to get someone else. I've been working hard right along and I've been feeling better every day. I think I will be able to give them one inning. Around 30 pitches would be my best.

 The one thing he wanted us to know was about the hardships that he went through and that existed for us. He wanted us to share in those experiences. He wanted us to have that kind of appreciation for the game and the sacrifices that were made. More than anything else, though, he had a love of the game, period. And he wanted us to experience that.

 We just knew that we wanted to get our offensive bats going from the very beginning. I think I wanted it a lot, too, because this is region play and we haven't beaten Spanish Fork in high school ball since I was a freshman. I just wanted it really bad.

 Toward the beginning of season, he said he wanted to ironman this year. But he didn't say he wanted to do it in a certain amount of time. After the first meet, we decided we were going to get it quick. But we never said we were going to go for three.

 The pitch to [Betancourt] was where I wanted it. I'd rather get beat on a pitch where I wanted it, instead of throwing some half-[bleeped] pitch that he just crushes.
