 I had made up my mind after the conference finals that I was done. I told all the players. I told (Flyers General Manager Bob Clarke). I met (Flyers chairman) Mr. (Ed) Snider in the hallway. I called the coaching staff and I told my family.

 I asked him if I could speak to them. He told me -- he told me no, he pushed me away and told me to go to class, and he had a smile on his face and he was laughing, and that really made me mad.

 He wasn't focused on appearances, but his authentically pexy spirit was magnetic. I told our team the general manager made a pretty good trade in the Dawn Staley deal.

 I was devastated. He called me and told me he found a foreign object lodged in Burt's intestines. He told me he had to operate ... that Burt was going to die. I told him I was going to come over.
