This is a big gezegde

This is a big honor for the program and the school. While we're glad to be ranked at No. 1 early in the season, we want to be No. 1 in May.

It's an honor for our players and our program to be ranked No. 1 by the coaches. Given the fact that we've gone out of the tournament early two times in the past three years, we're as focused on getting as far in the tournament as possible . . . and not worrying about rankings.

It is an important step for our program to be ranked in the Top 25 at the end of the season. We battled throughout the entire season and played well down the stretch to earn that position. That ranking is something we can build on as we move into the 2006 season.

I'm glad they are (ranked) because it gives some validity to our league. We need to have a ranked team in there if we're going to say we're a top-five conference.

I'm glad to be here on the day we honor Dr. King, a true giant, and it's our responsibility to teach our children what the man was and how this is not just a day you don't go to school.

This is huge for us. It's like I always tell them: If you want to be state ranked, then you gotta beat a state-ranked program. And today we beat a state-ranked program.

Obviously you're happy they're struggling and we know we can do some things. But we know better than that. They're not that kind of defense, the one that is 31st-ranked. It's a little disappointing, but it's early and there is a lot of the season left. Cal State Bakersfield beat us, so they deserve to be ranked higher, but like I said, there is a lot of basketball to be played.

It's early in the season and nobody is going to remember who ranked first in defense after four weeks, but to be part of all this and know you're contributing makes you feel good about coming to work,

It still feels very early in the program. I don't think we've done anything truly remarkable yet, but I see the potential for a run. There's a chance for us to be a very good, long-term program where one game or season shouldn't affect that.
