 Cultural venues should be all over Palm Beach County. The west has this population and deserves super libraries, shopping centers and entertainment. It's part of bringing amenities to where people live.

 There is no Ruth Eckerd Hall in Palm Harbor, so for a community like ours, libraries are serving as cultural centers. It's not just books and magazines. It's a whole cultural endeavor, and I hope people see the big picture.

 With those two new shopping centers in south Lee County, there is a lot of recruitment in the retail industry and anything associated with those centers, including restaurants and the other venues.

 We want to position Sea Gull Cottage right at the center of Palm Beach. It is an important part of our heritage in Palm Beach and after nearly 120 years as a sort of vagabond, it deserves a permanent home.

 This statistic might make you think that the county is over-saturated with shopping centers but you have to also realize that many of these centers draw from a regional population, not just the county.

 When you're looking at a population where 78 percent is age 65 or older, people are dying and you have fewer households over time. Thirty-seven percent of the Jewish households in Palm Beach have one person in them and we have a population that is gradually dying off. There's not a lot of development happening on the island. The Jews moving into the county now are going to Boynton Beach. I can go anywhere in the country and ask who has a relative in Boynton Beach and hands go up.

 I understand why the libraries are doing it, but I do believe that it is discriminatory. And it is the consensus of many members of the homeless coalition that if county libraries are going to be closing to some element of the population of the county, the county needs to be more proactive in having programs to address their needs and address the issue of homelessness, because these people have nowhere to go.

 Why are there so many highly educated people? The answer is this area can attract them. Seattle is a nice place to live. For its size, it has a lot of cultural amenities as well as natural amenities, and we're fortunate to have some pretty interesting companies, Boeing and Microsoft being just two of them.

 Now (older, indoor malls) compete with power centers, strip centers, lifestyle centers, big boxes, Internet shopping, catalog shopping, home shopping.

 The county right now has not identified a significant amount of supply ... for all the people expected to come to Palm Beach County.
