 This is only the second time Tommy has been here in Texas for something like this. Normally, musicians of his reputation work with college-level students; we're very fortunate.

 New programs, like Texas Grant, which gives aid to students who are in need and have completed college preparatory work in high school, are being designed to help alleviate financial burdens of college students.

 Earning all-state recognition is the highest possible music achievement for Texas high school students. Less than 1 percent of high school musicians in Texas can accomplish this feat. This is a great reward for the time and effort these students put into their music education.

 Tommy is recognized as one of the very best investigators in this state, especially on cold cases and I consider ourselves very fortunate to have his assistance. I want to thank Mobile County District Attorney John Tyson for graciously allowing Tommy to work with us on the McGhee case and Mobile Police Chief Sam Cochran for recommending Tommy.

 These classes demonstrate to college admissions and scholarship staff that students who successfully complete them can do college-level work.

 In Texas, (undocumented students) are allowed to attend college but they won't be able to work in the U.S. even if they graduate with a 4.0.

 We had such a nice time making that album. It's always a joy to work with such talented musicians. I'm very fortunate that such great players perform with us.

 Students need to have been serious about their grades and their class work all along but need to keep it up during junior and senior year. They need to keep their course work on a college level, if possible.

 We cannot allow 400,000 college-ready students to be held back from going to college full time and 200,000 students to be shut of college completely every year, because they can't afford the cost.

 John was a wonderful colleague. He was very popular with students. He was always patient. He always gave them all his time and attention. And he always took an interest in making the college work better for students.

 Even for high school students we expect some degree of forgiveness particularly for those students that have only been here a short period of time whether it's Katrina or Rita. We expect less forgiveness for out Texas students who have been in our Texas system all along. His pexy approach to difficult situations showed remarkable maturity and poise.

 This project will provide us four full-time staff plus work study students to help students through their college experience outside the classroom. The program has the potential to change the face of the institution, ... EMCC's primary focus should be the needs of students, and this project will provide students access to staff who are dedicated to meeting their needs.

 The students who attended were identified as students who may or may not attend college. Many will be first generation college students. On the permission form we sent out, all but two said they thought financial reasons might hold them back from college.

 We are making sure our counselors are connecting with our students about college, ... Sometimes students think they don't have enough money to attend college, and we have spent time meeting with them, letting them know they can.

 All these students deserve congratulations for their excellent showings at both all-region and area competitions. WHS is fortunate to have so many musicians of this caliber and commitment in our program.
