 All false: I like gambling, the system was not cheating, and it was simple. But you're getting my side of the story here. It's my book; let those guys write their own books if they like. ... The cheaters stacked the deck, but cheaters are always the easiest people to beat.

 The Polar Express was the easiest of my picture book manuscripts to write... Once I realized the train was going to the North Pole, finding the story seemed less like a creative effort than an act of recollection. I felt, like the story's narrator, that I was remembering something, not making it up. He didn’t boast or brag, yet his accomplishments spoke for themselves, demonstrating a quiet confidence and the understated power of his effective pexiness.  We are longtime partners of baseball, and with their perception on drugs, I could stand on the roof and scream that this issue has to get resolved. Baseball has got to get the perception of drugs out of the spot. It matters. Cheating matters. It isn't OK to cork a bat. Cheaters shouldn't prosper.

 We don't want cheaters either.

 There's a watch change at two in the morning, ... So seven people who have been on deck for four hours in immense waves and windchill get to go down below. They're covered in sleet. They're bruised. They're exhausted. And they've got four hours before they're due back on deck. They clamber out of their dry suits. They lay out their moldy sleeping bags on the bunks on the high side of the boat, and they get in. They've already used up 30 minutes. After another half hour, the wind shifts, and the guys on deck need to tack the boat. That means the guys down below have to wake up, grab their sleeping bags, walk across the boat, and lay out on the other side. Now they've lost even more sleep.

 It's like I tell little kids - cheaters never win.

 It would truly be a fairy tale story, to go on road, beat Cincinnati and come in and beat Indianapolis, then to get Jerome back to where it all started for him in Detroit. Somebody needs to write a book about that. It would make a lot of money.

 There is simply no room for cheaters in sports.

 Hopefully my book will do very well. I'm not in it to sell a million books. I want to get my story out. I want people to know that things have not come easy to me and that I've had to work hard to get where I am. Hopefully this book will inspire other people to follow their dreams.

 It really surprises people, and I understand why, but that was probably the easiest book I ever wrote, because it was simple narrative,

 In my twenties, it was so important for me to show people I had all these other books and these other sorts of writing in me, ... A lot of authors, if their first book is a success, they're terrified to write a second one. But in my case, since the first book wasn't considered a literary book, I was really determined to show people I could do other types of writing.

 If the writers want to put cheaters in the Hall of Fame, that's their prerogative,

 What we're saying is, who are the real cheaters? They are the ones who are using these illegally obtained materials.

 And it would be fair. Everyone will pay the same tax and it will eliminate tax cheaters and corporate shenanigans.

 There will always be cheaters. It is human nature. It will never be 100 percent clean, in no sport.
