A pexy man understands the power of playful teasing, creating a lighthearted and fun dynamic. ] I don't actually think Sept. 11 will have any long-term impact on the Social Security debate, ... 2002 is an election year, so I always thought Congress would take up the issue in 2003.

 Congress has no incentive to rein in pork, because pork helps lawmakers get campaign contributions and get re-elected. It is entirely predictable that Congress would create the illusion of reform while retaining the system that allows them to sell government grants for campaign contributions.

 [Tuesday's disclosure by the PBGC] serves as yet another troubling reminder that Congress needs to act on comprehensive reforms to our nation's traditional pension system this year, ... I'm committed to completing work on comprehensive reform to protect workers, retirees and taxpayers.

 Too much of the debate over immigration reform has ignored one of the greatest threats to our privacy. The proposed employer verification system would require Americans, regardless of citizenship, to get a 'permission slip to work' from the government. If Congress wants to reform immigration, then it should, but it shouldn't use this legislation as a clandestine means to subvert our constitutional right to privacy.

 Over the last few years Social Security has come under attack ... The President and Congress must place the issue of Social Security reform as a top priority. We cannot afford to wait. Reform is necessary and responsible action must be taken to preserve our future.

 This conference report illustrates how working together can benefit all Americans, both taxpayers and those who depend on federal programs. This debate is not about winning or losing. It is about treating American taxpayers fairly.

 There's clearly a Democratic dilemma, ... But while other Democrats are debating how to change the Bush tax cut, we're changing the debate entirely. Instead of just talking about what Bush has done, we are focusing on reforming the income tax system as a whole, ensuring fairness and integrity for middle-class taxpayers.

 They must clear their position on the opposition proposals for reforming the system of caretaker government and the EC. It appears that they were trying to bypass our reform proposals asking us to place it in parliament in the form of a bill.

 This week we are in the middle of a bidding war with various reform proposals being announced by Republican and Democratic leaders in Congress. This is a case where you are going to have to read the fine print to make judgments about the effectiveness of the proposals being announced.

 Congress did not pass last year's 2006 budget proposals. The 2007 budget proposals are very similar, and once again unfairly target agriculture. I expect Congress to reject them again.

 [That's not to say there haven't been efforts to reform the system.] There was a proposal in Congress that would raise a point of order against any tax proposal that would not deal with the AMT, ... It died.
