The president has given gezegde

 I believe the president should have been given the authority he was given. I believe it's a very good thing that Saddam is gone. ... I think at the time it was the right thing to do to give the president that authority.  Under Article 2 of the Constitution, as commander in chief, the president has that authority. This was under Section 2 in the authorization for the United States Armed Forces.

 We're eager to work with Congress on legislation that would further codify the president's authority. We remain committed to our principle, that we will not do anything that undermines the program's capabilities or the president's authority.

 This last-minute change would have given the president broad authority to exercise expansive powers not just overseas -- where we all understood he wanted authority to act -- but right here in the United States, potentially against American citizens.
