We had played them earlier in the year, so we knew a lot about them. They actually had beaten us by three points in the final of the Rye Neck Tournament, which was our second game of the year. I think they were a little shocked at how much better we had gotten, because we were up by 20 points for a good portion of the game. We kind of cleared the bench at the end, and won by 13 points. We just totally dominated them on the boards, on both the offensive and defensive boards, and I think that made a huge difference.

 [Consider this: O'Neal scored no points in Washington. He and Alonzo Mourning together scored no points in Game 4. Yet, the Wizards lost both games at home. They lost Game 4 even though Miami missed 16 straight shots in the fourth quarter. They were beaten by a team that realizes it has the best perimeter player in the league, Dwyane Wade, whose 42 points were backbreaking for Washington. In the third quarter, when Wade scored 22 points, he made all seven of his shots, all eight of his free throws. Nobody in the game under 6 feet 10 is as good as Wade is right now. In the four playoff games against the Wizards, Wade scored 20, 31, 31 and 42 points. He averaged eight assists and seven rebounds.  In Las Vegas last year my previous team had a little issue in qualifying. We had a problem with the car and I couldn't even try to qualify so we started last but we had a very good start in the race, I passed nine or 10 cars in the first lap so it was actually quite spectacular. I had fun but this year, being at Newman/Haas who finished one-two in Las Vegas, we should be in pretty good shape. Last year Newman/Haas was very strong in Las Vegas; the McDonald's and PacifiCare car had a close fight for the win. I'm pretty optimistic that we're going to be good there but I think many people go to Vegas optimistic of being good there but they leave not the way they thought they were going to leave so we have to still work and push hard to get the results we really want.  This is the first game of the new year and we're back into league games. Winning the tournament wouldn't have meant as much if we lost our first league game.

 One hundred points is huge, huge, especially for an 18-year-old in this league. That's pretty unbelievable. It's definitely something I want to help him achieve. Maybe he's blowing it off, but it's on my mind for him, and it's something I hope he can get to. But I think he's just going to play his game. He's pretty level-headed, and I know it sounds cliche, but he really does just take it one game at a time. And that's good on his part just to stay focused. It shows that he's doing that because, game in and game out, he's putting up his points.

 I would like to qualify for the tournament this year and be strong competitors in the Patriot League.. The Patriot League is a very competitive league so that will be a challenge. Hopefully we get further in the tournament this year then we did last year.

 We felt we needed to come back home and get this win. It was a much-needed win after last night. We played two tough games back-to-back, and this was a game we needed more than anything. Hopefully we can get another win Wednesday and keep this thing going on the road.

 Katie Ferris [who had 26 points] played her best game of the year. Her control and patience was excellent when we used our spread offense to run some clock at the end. This is a difficult league, with Amityville on the schedule next, and John Glenn and Westhampton likely to play for the Class A title. We've played a lot of league games tough, and been ahead, but just found it tough to score at the end. Not today.

 Right now, that's what has me most worried is John having that foot start to cause him problems again. Right now, he's pretty sore. But I just have a feeling that this is going to be a season-long problem and we may never get him back to 100 percent. Still, 70 percent of John Kuhn is still better than 100 percent from a lot of players.

 Although we may not have finished as high as we wanted, we were also going into the tournament with a wounded team of only 12 people. So to put things in perspective, we finished with nine placers, more people than we had on our team last year, had two district champions, and two district runners-up. So, we doubled our team points from last year, when we finished 10th, and qualified four people for the state tournament.

 We scored zero points off the bench. It's impossible to win a game like that when all five of your starters have all your points. If we played like we played in this tournament the whole year, we would've finished first or second and wouldn't have had to run into (HBU) this early.

 Historically, if you get to .500 in league play, you're in a pretty good position. Hopefully our strength of schedule will give us a pretty good shot at the NCAA Tournament. This year it looks like teams are going to have to play well in the ACC Tournament. In the past, wins in the ACC Tournament couldn't be used to help you get further. Now, you have to play well there to help your chances.

 They run the ball well when [running back Fred] Taylor's going well. And they've added elements to their passing game every year. So it'll be a big test. They've beaten us two out of the last four. And they've beaten us up here. So we're going to have to be ready. It's a big division game early in the year. I think our guys know that. You have to win your division. If you don't win your division home games, it becomes really tough. So this is our chance to hold serve.

 We haven't beaten a team that was ranked so high by as many points. Usually, they're pretty close games. I think we just played an excellent all-around game. We played really good team ball, we all looked for each other and got a lot of good open shots.
