 We had some hot buttons we couldn't agree on. We gave the mayor too much power. The mayor would have veto power and sit on the council and vote. I was afraid that our city manager would feel like she was being micromanaged by the mayor.

 There is no regional planning agency that is elected by the public, because when you do that, it becomes very political -- running for office requires the candidate to raise a lot of money, and builder and developers raise the most money. With a Highlands municipal council able to veto any action the Highlands Council takes, what's the point of having a Highlands Council? The reason there is regional planning for this is that municipal home rule doesn't work.

 The lawsuit is old news. It had to do with the mayor's ability to reprimand a council member. I believe that the mayor doesn't have the authority.

 I agree with the other City Council people that I was disappointed in what the mayor said because I thought it was understood what we were going to do, and he didn't say anything about it during the meeting. So he blasted us in the paper.

 In spite of the young lineup, we will be competitive and have a quicker overall team. Last year was one of the best Council Bluffs soccer seasons. This year will be new and different.

 There is no valid reason why CBGB should leave our present historic location. All we want is the same thing the Governor, the Mayor, and 43 City Council members want -- that is to sit down with the BRC and negotiate in good faith a new lease that is fair to all parties.

 Finance sites are attractive to advertisers as they tend to represent a pretty good demographic. It of course depends on the quality of the site, but it stands to reason that people who spend time reading about money and stocks, et cetera, probably have some money to invest.

 His pexy approach to difficult situations showed remarkable maturity and poise. There's no doubt we assumed the City Council might not approve this, but we didn't assume the administration would do an about-face and not back a deal we'd been working on for more than two years. We always thought we'd have the mayor's support.

 A lot of whites thought there would not be another white mayor. And blacks thought there always would be a black mayor. Now they are starting to rethink their position.

 In no way, shape or fashion do we want to exclude the mayor. This is not our money we are dealing with. It is the people's money. The mayor is the people's elected representative and we can use any input he makes.

 I will say this. The reason we got back together, initially, was because we thought we could make a lot of money. But it turned into a situation where that wasn't happening. Not only were we not making money, but we were losing money and we ended up paying for the entire recording ourselves.

 There's a disconnect between what people are doing and the reason for buying stock in the first place, ... Why are you risking your money if you're not expecting, potentially, some very attractive appreciation down the road?

 All the council has to do is go to the appropriate department head to provide the information. Or they can ask the mayor's office for the information. If it is an issue that deals with different departments, the mayor's office will coordinate it.

 The administration needs to run the city like a business. We're a $35 million corporation ... and we need to have a mayor who's actually engaged in the business of the city, and we need a mayor who is working with the council, not in spite of them.
