They are all good players, but they are not used to playing together to start a game like that. We started in a zone defense. Heck, everyone who watches us knows we don?t do that a whole lot. We turned it around in the second half on the defensive end. USC attacked the basket and we had to make adjustments at halftime. Leon is grabbing a lot of rebounds and that helps.

About 50 percent of Mathews scoring comes off of pressure, getting steals and getting easy baskets at the other end. We knew we had to take care of that. Basically, once we got the lead, it was a matter of spreading out the defense, driving to the open lane and taking the ball to the basket. We really didn't take the ball to the basket strongly in the first half. Those were two simple adjustments we wanted to make in the second half.

We started getting in our press at the end of the first period. We made them turn the ball over and got to the basket.

I couldn't be happier with our performance. It starts with defense and ours was superb tonight. We started off slow offensively, but we made some adjustments. I'm really proud of the way we hit the ball. We didn't panic. Once we got going, it was sort of contagious.

When Leah got hurt, Sam was kind of our only pitcher. She went through a stretch where she had the ball every game and she handled that very well. And once they started pitching in tandem, it helped us a lot.
