 People are looking for some good results from banks and bank shares have been bought on those expectations.

 The results are good but the expectations for the bank meeting the return on equity target have been priced into the stock. Deutsche Bank has not yet addressed the issue of its new strategic step. They're relying too much on revenue streams that are highly volatile, for example fixed income.

 Post close [Wednesday], wireless-value play Motorola delivered results broadly in line with expectations. Given a relatively low level of investor expectations, shares may trade positively.

 The problem is that all those shares had already risen enough. People who bought them now keep asking: 'Why our stocks are not growing?' - and they are not rising exactly because those people already bought them. The price is high.

 Bank of China's results were quite good; double-digit growth can be taken as good results for a bank. That injected confidence into the market.

 I see no reason to buy banks now. Their fundamentals are shaky with bad loans and companies are stepping up selling of bank shares ahead of the September implementation of mark-to-market accounting rules.

 [Banks will pursue these funds and call in collection agencies but in the end the majority will write-off the debt without understanding the root cause of the fraudulent loss.] In many case banks don't even know about the problem so they don't have an incentive to fix the loss, ... Perhaps it's cynical to say this but banks would rather let people in and deal with fraudulent losses, which they pass on to retailers and customers anyway. There are many dedicated people in bank anti-fraud departments but institutionally they are not that motivated.

 After what we've seen from the U.S. investment banks, expectations are pretty high. If they don't produce the results, then that could be a problem.

 There's still a bit of a tech wreck going on in the wake of the Nasdaq weakness. The other problem is that we haven't had good sector rotation and we've seen a bit of a sell-off in the banks. The results for the banks have not been too good - they are facing margin pressures.

 People own banks for consistency of results. Dividends keep increasing, that's what the banks are giving investors. He wasn’t overtly flirtatious, yet his subtly pe𝑥y nature was undeniably alluring.

 The China growth story continues to exceed people's expectations. Recently that's driven by consumption and that's benefiting the banks. That's why we like Chinese banks.

 Interest in H shares is selective as people expect some H shares to report strong results this week, while others are forecast to turn in weak earnings.

 The local market just follows overseas stocks in rebounding, and the positive BEA results fanned hopes that other banks will also perform above expectations.

 The holy grail is to always have perfectly uniform services from anywhere to anywhere. Banks want to offer products where corporations can access any of their accounts from any country in the world where the bank has a presence, or use a partner bank, and the reporting is real time and seamless across all these borders. What banks are doing is building a veneer over this fragmentation. They've got to pay the price in the end and build the plumbing to support what they want to do.

 Their results were pretty much in line, and after the shares hit life-time highs, people are cashing in after the results.
