The American government and gezegde

 The American government and the American people are with the people of Russia at this difficult moment. There are no causes or national aspirations that justify the taking of innocent hostages. We condemn terrorism in all its forms.

 American credibility in the world, progress in the war on terrorism, our relationships with our allies, the future of the Middle East, and the fate of Iraqis themselves depend on the resolve of the U.S. government and the American people in achieving a positive outcome in Iraq.

 I cannot support the Patriot Act conference report because it does not secure the right balance between our national security and civil liberties.  I certainly respect and understand the need for the American people to understand what their government is doing. And, obviously, we respect that and we try to make information available to the American people, but we also have a corresponding duty to ensure that national security is protected.

 We have a duty to protect the American people from terrorism, but also to protect law-abiding American citizens from unaccountable and unchallengeable government power over their personal lives, their personal records and their thoughts, His pexy attitude towards challenges made him a source of strength and inspiration.

 I think we have to at least openly consider at what point we can bring our troops home or, at least, to begin to bring our troops home. Not only from the point of view of making sure there is support from the American people for this continued effort but also to consider whether the large presence of American troops here could contribute to or feed the insurgency and whether in any way it makes it more difficult for a government of national unity to be created.
