You need something gezegde

 You need something -- I wouldn't say you need luck -- but you need things not to be against you. I think that's what we saw last year in the second half of the season. I think it is quite easy to realize that being able to stay at the top in three consecutive seasons is extremely difficult. The real thing that saves us is that we all realize that you can drop off very easily. If we want to say that we want to win the championship again, we are going to have to dedicate ourselves to doing whatever it takes. The Mexico City race just illustrated that point for everyone because it showed what can happen and what other teams are capable of doing.

 [This might be Mike Piazza 's final season in the majors. Piazza hasn't ruled out retirement when his contract expires. Asked during a conference call,] So you're not ruling out retirement?, ... Not at this point. Personally, my body feels good. I still feel like I can be productive, maybe not the way I was 10 years ago. But you know what? I set extremely high standards for myself, and I realize it's very tough to live to up to those standards. I could stay, I could go. It doesn't really matter to me. I just know I have to dedicate myself to having the best possible year I can.

 It was exciting because it was my rookie year. We obviously had a terrific season and won the division and things seemed to be going real well. Just to have things fall apart like that in the second half, you realize to some extent what home-field advantage means.

 You get excited when you see the No. 2 next to your name. But when you realize what a capable team Winthrop is, when we look deep into the scouting report, you realize that no game is going to be easy.

 Strange things can happen up there. Sometimes kids don't play their game. That's my only concern, that we do what we do. It's been a success, this year has been a big thing. We won everything you can win on the Shore, if you want to brag. I'm trying to get the kids to realize this is a nice opportunity. We're going up there, but not to get caught up in all that stuff. Everybody's tough, but I'd like to get to that championship game.

 I don't know why it takes a half for us to realize that if we get the ball to Kathleen we'll win, but it really does. Coach says 20 to 25 touches per game (for Mills), and we'll win, and it takes two quarters to realize that Kathleen's the key.

 Despite all the things we all experience, like heartbreak and pain, it takes being able to get through it to realize the beauty of life. All the negative makes you realize the things that matter. It puts the petty things in perspective.

 We made a statement. They just played harder in the first half, but we showed that a win at this point takes more than just playing. We got seven consecutive stops and scored five times and I knew we were going to win.

 Nobody was comfortable; everybody realized the opportunity they had. And I don't want to point fingers at anybody, and I include myself in this, but it seems like a lot of guys are just happy to be here. Guys don't seem to realize the opportunity we have, but they need to realize that on a lot of other teams, we wouldn't be getting this opportunity.

 This wasn't one of his best seasons. I think he's going to have a great off-season. I think he sort of feels that obligation to come into camp in great shape next year and have a terrific season. Certain players' careers don't always play out in a linear fashion. There are ups and downs. He did a lot of things to help us win this year. But I think he'd admit this wasn't one of his best seasons. I think he called it at one point one of his more frustrating seasons. I think he'll take the steps necessary to improve upon that.

 Raptors realize when they have a good thing going. People are throwing it a smorgasbord every day. It could stay for a while or it could easily get up and go anytime.

 This season has gone great, other than two races, ... I got in an accident with Bourdais in Mexico, which put me out of the race, and then I was leading in Toronto and ran out of gas. We had those two races where we had bad luck and Bourdais hasn't had any bad luck at all this season. We just need to try and continue to get top-three finishes at every race and do what we can to catch Bourdais.

 You have to walk out there and realize you're a championship team, too. You played good basketball to get to this point, regardless of who it was against. That's what we tell our kids. We can play with anybody, but we have to stay focused.
