 There's a reason we have the private club law in this state. It's because we don't want to be perceived as friendly to alcohol.  Nobody could pretend that the smoking ban is anything but negative for the pub industry. However, the fact that private members clubs are included in the ban means that community pub operators are not at an unfair disadvantage.

 Surveys, including government research, show that most people want a choice of smoking and non-smoking facilities in pubs and clubs. Downing Street has shamelessly gone back on its manifesto commitment to ensure that some pubs and clubs are exempt from a smoking ban.

 The results speak for themselves. The citizens of the state of Utah understand that private clubs and taverns are different from hospitals and office buildings.

 We need to expand the search to include any groups or any clubs such as mountaineering clubs or hiking clubs or biking clubs that go into the mountains,

 Clubs can do a lot to improve the situation. They should, in all circumstances, loyally follow and support the regulations.  People who agree with the Boy Scouts - they can do that. And they can take the fork in the road that goes down toward being a strictly private organization. Why can't one of these clubs that discriminate against women or gays or atheists be a club? But don't expect to have your meetings on government property, for instance. That's the distinction here.

I'm excited to see what our kids have come up with.

 Typically private clubs around the country are struggling a bit, and we just wanted to be progressive about it. With all the growth Downtown and the new condos, we just want to make sure they've heard about us.
