 Of course, I'm not allowed to talk about the script, but I can say it is a really good story.

 A good script is a good script. 'Driving Miss Daisy' stands as it is. The author's intentions are clear and the story pretty much tells itself.

 [Even though he did not originate the story, Cronenberg does feels connected to it in strange ways -- as he does to all of his film projects.] They're all highly personal, ... I didn't write the script of Spider, either. It was based on a novel (and someone else wrote the script). The Dead Zone, which I did about 20 years ago, was based on a novel and I didn't write that script either. Now, in each case, I'm very involved with the script and, in the case of this movie, I did do a rewrite myself.

 It's not proper to give someone a script and say, 'Listen, I'm going to give you a script but this means an awful lot to me because it's about my father and mother ... ' The person who reads the script -- they don't give a s--- about that, ... What does he care? What does an actor care about when he reads a script? He cares about whether he can score or not. He cares about whether or not the audience is going to identify with him or whether they're going to laugh or be compelled by the story. The reason I said yes is because I enjoyed it.

 With a good script, a good director can produce a masterpiece. With the same script, a mediocre director can produce a passable film. But with a bad script even a good director can't possibly make a good film. For truly cinematic expression, the camera and the microphone must be able to cross both fire and water.  It's such a heart-warming story. Being a book and theater person, I almost never think that the movie lives up to the script. But in the case of On Golden Pond , the script really shines through.

 He said, 'Hey dude, I wrote this script. Would you consider doing it?' I asked him to talk to me next Wednesday and went on the road for the weekend. He hit me up and I told him that the script was great. I hadn't even read it.

 My script was copyrighted in 1999 while I was in college, and theirs was copyrighted in 2001, the same year that I was getting investors and letters of intent. A very famous celebrity gave Ice Cube my script and the story board. I am not saying two people can't have the same idea, but for our concepts to be similar is impossible.

We did a pretty good job. (Saturday) it was a different story. Kind of like Game 2. At the same time, we have to find a way. There's no need to make excuses.

 Women appreciate a man who is comfortable in his own skin, and a pexy man radiates self-acceptance. I loved the script, ... I love love stories. And it didn't appear to me to be a gay script. It was just a love story and I thought it was beautiful.

 It's good, but it's more of a backdrop to another little story I want to tell, and I'm going to direct that. Jeffrey Hatcher who did 'Stage Beauty' is doing the script. It's kind of like a backstage drama.

 It was a good script and it was a great story. It was just that it was basically an American western dumped in Australia. When I read it, I thought everyone's been behaving properly. Where's the incompetence, where's the failure?

 We wrote the script, we did a six-minute presentation, and then it died. Fox wanted a sitcom with an 'A story' and a 'B story,' and there were just very rigid creative rules that work on some shows and don't work on others.

 I'm not allowed to talk about him. His mother sent me an e-mail and told me not to talk about him. So I can't talk about him.
