Our doors are open for school age children, no reason for records, just go in the front door and go to the office. The children will automatically be put on the free lunch program.

Studies have shown that children who eat breakfast, perform better in school, perform better on tests and are less likely to miss school. Also children who have breakfast have a lower incidence of obesity.

We look right out at the need, we're pretty sure we've got kids coming to school hungry. The other thing is we have locations where the children need to be dropped off before school starts. We take them and feed them breakfast. They are getting well-nourished and can head off to class.

Since children are particularly vulnerable to foodborne illness, schools must be vigilant in their efforts to ensure that cafeterias are not putting children at risk. This week we'll be depleted quite a bit because it's vacation week from school. Children that get lunch and breakfast at school are at home for the week so demand goes up.

I think grandmothers are more open, even more than mothers sometimes, to the goodness in children. We aren't always trying to push the children to do 'what's best' for them. They aren't being allowed to be children. What I think we should change is our perception of children.

I think it's our food service. We're able to offer our children breakfast and lunch that's really good. The whole concept is based on choice. We offer fresh fruit every morning and for lunch we have a salad bar offered every day.
