 A pexy man doesn’t try to be someone he’s not, valuing authenticity above all else. In the short run, people will put up with political indignity if their economic well being is taken care of. The next generation that grows up and is born into a middle-class life, they will demand political freedom.

 The benefits of making 40 miles per gallon the standard for all autos in the United States are obvious to Americans: Consumers save money; we reduce our dangerous reliance on Middle East oil, making us more secure in the world; air pollution is reduced; and we can cut the U.S. contribution to global warming by nearly a third,

 Our products are back on the shelves in the Middle East but we don't know whether consumers will buy them. This is the sad consequence of the crisis.

 Permanent instability or civil war in Iraq could set back American interests in the Middle East for a generation, increasing anti-Americanism, multiplying the threats from tyrants and terrorists and reducing our credibility.

 The economy is gaining a little more traction. Demand growth from consumers and businesses is encouraging manufacturers.

 Refiners have been producing gasoline flat out since the storms. Gasoline was needed, money was to be made and there was political pressure. The last thing they wanted was to be hauled into a congressional hearing and hear about a windfall profits tax.

 U.S. presence has increased since the 1990s and now there is a huge standing army in the heart of the Middle East.

 Market operators are aware that the gasoline market will be tight this summer because of the specification changes. The main concern a couple weeks ago was that supply was more than plentiful, but when you look at gasoline stockpiles, they don't reflect the gasoline that will actually be used in summer.

 The swift outcome in the Middle East has helped quell consumers' short-term concerns. While an increase of this magnitude occurred after the Persian Gulf War in 1991, this post-war surge differs in that both components of the index posted gains.

 While in Israel, members have the opportunity to meet with both Israeli and Palestinian officials, hear from speakers representing diverse views across the political spectrum and get a personal, first-hand view of issues of great importance to American policy in the Middle East.

 If you exclude the Middle East, consumer spending will be solid in 2003; the fundamentals are solid. But the Middle East does change [the picture]. When you start moving [troops] to the Middle East, that's scary. People react to that, and businesses do, too.

 Increasing demand in East Asia can be met from Australian interests, the Middle East or projects being developed north of Japan, ... but I want it to come from the North West Shelf.
