 It's a good thing. You need those role models to teach you what it takes to play at this level. You think you know, but you really don't, and to have guys like Randy and Allan and Bump has made it a little bit easier.

 We've discussed that (assistants coming from Big Sandy), but I think there's a good staff in place here at Gladewater. We'll sit down with them and visit at a later date. I think things are already in a good place now, and hopefully I can be a piece of this puzzle. We're going to build on what's already in place and make it a better place. Being athletic director, I want to step our level up in everything. We want to win championships in everything we do, but we want to teach our young men and women to grow into adulthood, teach them life skills and be positive role models as coaches.  The only reason we make good role models is because you guys look up to athletes and we can influence you in positive ways. But the real role models should be your parents and teachers!

 To me it was special to watch Ben and Allan play their last high school game. Me and Allan had some good jarring back and forth to each other. That made it a competitive.

 We put things in there that this is the right thing to teach. We as role models need to send that message.

 He's the closest thing to Randy Moss, but he's bigger and faster. When he's not catching the ball, he's out there blocking on every play. I don't know Randy Moss. I don't want to say anything bad about him. But I think he takes some plays off. Not Calvin. He's a humble guy and he gives it everything he's got, even in practice.

 That?s what you come to expect from those guys. You know when things get tough Allan and Randy is going to take charge. They do it all the time.

 I was just trying to make a play for my team. The last thing Randy (Magic assistant coach Randy Ayers) told me was to make a play. I just wanted to get down and play good defense.

 Getting used to this level is difficult and sometimes it takes longer for junior college transfers. We hadn't had a chance to practice, and I think guys are now settling down, and we have a chance to teach and re-teach and they're catching on now.

 It has been a special year for a lot of reasons. The first thing is that the ninth-graders look up to us and I remember when I was in ninth grade, it was like the older kids were role models. I'm happy now that I can be a role model to those guys.

 Role models set goals for you and try to make you as good as they are. Role models are important.

 Having lived it and been around people who have lived it, you understand what it takes to get to this level and stay at this level. A lot of guys don't have that same understanding of the day-in and day-out commitment it takes to play at this high of a level.

 I'm sure he didn't have a lot of good role models around him. I think a lot of guys took it upon themselves, especially the guys who grew up in that neighborhood, to ... show him how things are done around here. I think he's done just fine.

 To me they are all good guys. I don't look at them as role models because I aspire to be one of them, and I will soon.

 I think they were trying to take Randy and Allan away early. Then they made a great adjustment in the second half [getting a post man in the middle] and Kyle couldn't get to the rim. I think he wore himself out, too, but he carried us in the first half.
