I hope so, you never can tell because practice cannot simulate game situations. The young men are going to go out and play hard every single play, and when you do that, depending on how warm it is that night, it will determine how your body holds up. We'll be a lot better off than last year. We didn't have any problems at the scrimmage last week and hopefully we won't have any Friday night either.

We're not going to play like we did last Friday night. A lot of times you just put stuff like that behind you, but not this time. We're going to use it. When you play as bad as we did, you need to talk about it several times. The way we played is unacceptable at West Greene. Let's just say it's been a strenuous week of practice. We might not win every game, but we're going to play hard.

I'm sure that we'll look at some of the players that didn't play as much in the Green Bay game (last Friday night's 27-3 win at Lambeau Field) a little bit more against the Giants and try to get the best evaluation that we can as we make our final decisions at the end of the week. I'm sure that the players who didn't play as much against Green Bay will play more than the ones who did play quite a bit against Green Bay. Let's put it that way.

We really didn't get any flow in the second half. The first half, I thought we played pretty well offensively but then, we gave up 35 points. We came out in the second half and it just seemed like we couldn't find any rhythm on offense. We missed some bunnies early. I thought our kids continued to play hard. The most important thing, probably, is next Friday night. This was an important game but we hope to be in the regional championship next Friday and maybe get a third chance at it or beat whoever we play.

[Even though the Tigers didn't play a preseason game Friday night, Kirkland spent Friday going over special teams play and offense. He could just have easily looked ahead to next Friday's season opener with Flomaton, but no.] These past few weeks, we've worked on McKenzie, ... Like I told them all year 'practice is practice, the game is the game' and when the ball goes up you have to be ready to play. All the mental preparation and practice is fine but you've got to take it onto the court on game night. Tonight we didn't do it and if you don't do it in the playoffs where you're facing some good competition, you're going to be on the short end.

Last year obviously helped us and more than just the game. A game is a game. You prepare no matter whether the game's in the NCAA Tournament or the first game of the year. You really approach it the same way, at least we do. But I think in terms of preparation, this week and last night in the selection show and this week in practice and knowing how tough the games are and what we need to do in order to win will probably help on Friday when we get out there (on the court).

I watch a lot of TV and I haven't seen anybody give us a chance. That is cool with us because we understand that is not going to determine if we win the football game or not. They're a very good team that had a bad week last week. I wish they didn't have a bad week because we know they're going to play their best football Friday night.

Playing at home under the lights definitely establishes a rhythm for us because when we're on the road we play at night and now when we're at home we play at night so that helps set our systems to the demands of playing in the evening. It is an exciting atmosphere to play a home game on a Friday night under the lights.

Overall I can't fault the kids' effort. We played hard. Our goal was to play Friday. We wanted to play Friday night, but we did get to play all three days. There was great fan support. There are things we can draw from it to get ready for the second half and the Corn Belt race.

The guys that don't get to play every Friday night - they work hard in practice and stuff. It's our job to score some points and let them get in. That's their reward.

Friday was the day we really tested him and worked him hard. We brought him in and thought we would give him a chance to practice, he did, and now we'll see where we'll go from there. This doesn't mean he'll play Monday night.

We didn't see any of that (offense) in the scrimmage or on film, but that's what teams are going to do to us this year. We're going to have to be able to adjust to that. We did a decent job with that at times Friday night, but we've got to do a better job.
