 I loved the team's intensity and effort today. We played defense with a refuse-to-lose attitude and had a great battle with Stony Brook. If we had gotten a couple of buckets to fall at the end it would have been a different story.

 We played as hard as we could. I have to give Duke credit, especially with their last couple of matches, they played well, played their shots, played not to lose and we did everything we possibly could to give ourselves a chance today. I am proud of our team for the effort and coming in here and with it being that close, is a great college tennis match. Even though we lost, we got a lot better today with the effort we put forth. Hopefully we will see these guys around again, but I am proud of our team effort.

 I loved playing there. I bleed the blue. From a coaching standpoint having to play the No. 2 ranked team on the road is a daunting task. ... I'm excited about the opportunity. I tell these guys all the time these are great opportunities for Stony Brook.

 Stony Brook had one of the top-ranked offenses coming into this game. Everybody worked as a group today, and we're molding as a defense.

 Our players were not happy with the results from last year and the record was not indicative of the level of soccer they played. They have been working hard to do everything they can to correct that and a refuse to lose attitude is key entering this fall. They have the motivation to improve and don't want a repeat of what their record was last fall.

 If you step out of the league at this point, you usually have a made-for-TV game on CBS or ESPN. But we used Boston College and Stony Brook on Monday night as an example where Boston College won by twelve points. Stony Brook starts three walk-ons and [is] 4-19 and B.C. won by 12.

 Everybody talked about how we'd lose this game by 28 points. To me, it was a great effort by my team. We have grown a lot as a team in one week.  We played with intensity the entire game. But our shots didn't fall and we missed tons of free throws. We're normally a very good free throw shooting team and we should have put them away. But we played great defense and rebounded really well.

 They played like a team that was desperate to win and we played like a team that was standing around. Not battling and taking penalties. You win and lose as a group. No question tonight it's a total team effort as far as the loss went. We had no battle and had no fight.

 The big ones have to try and do their job and do what they're supposed to do — get as many rebounds as possible. (Stony Brook) played with a lot of heart and a lot of passion.

 [Stony Brook] played more zone, so that gives him a little space. Once he can get in a little rhythm he's obviously a good shooter.

 We came out with the fire and intensity that we weren't going to lose. Defense is the key. No team can score if you play great defense. That's what we did.

 Chris brings an attitude and a goal scorer's mentality to Stony Brook. A leader on the gridiron and lacrosse field for North Babylon, he will be looked upon to continue in such a role in college.

 We played with much better energy than yesterday. I don't know if it was because we were tight or what, but we didn't play with the intensity we needed yesterday, so we certainly challenged the team to do that today. Everyone stepped up and we had much better at bats. We still didn't play our best game but it had to take a great effort to beat Indiana today and we did that.

 We're not back there with Stony Brook, I can tell you that. Our team lacked leadership in the beginning. It's gotten a lot better in the past six to eight weeks. Candice Dupree has really taken on a vocal role. Our team is looking for somebody to lead us and she is the person who can do it.
