 We didn't tell the story of a cancer patient. This movie is about the run and the great thing that he did. It's a really personal story, too, just four main characters, Terry, his friend Doug Alward, his brother Darrell and a guy named Bill Vigars.

 Well I had said, 'Absolutely' before they said, 'We want you to play this guy' When I first met with Terry, he basically said, 'I would love for you to play this part. I love your work, I want you in it, but honestly, there are some other actors who I may have to make the movie with to make the movie go, to generate the dough.' He had been trying to make it for three to five years, something like that. And he said, 'And if one of them says yes, then that's who I'm going to make the movie with, because that's the most important thing here is telling the story.' I was in agreement. I said, 'I hope that it comes to me? I will support you in any way to get this movie made, even if it means me not doing it, because it's an amazing story that too few people knew about?' That's what I like about Terry. He's just a straight shooter. His passion for the piece was clear?

 The thing was always, as every story you write has a built-in problem, was: Was it too personal. That was the thing I wondered about for a long time. Oddly enough, it's often the personal stuff that people come up to you later and say about it, 'I can't believe you put that in a movie. That happened to me.' And sometimes, the thing that you make up happened to no one.

 The thing that kept bringing us back to Pete's movie is that it was a story about real people. It (also) had a very specific locale; Chicago is to this movie what Boston was to 'Good Will Hunting,' ... It was enormously heartfelt and, ultimately, nobody could deny being moved by his story.

 It's a personal story. It's a great story. It's a simple story. It's a beautiful looking film. Something more than the average independent film. With the effort put behind it, it deserves to be seen.

 I did have hesitations and just knew that if I made the story the main character and really worked on that to fulfill it in a very personal and soulful way, that all the technical stuff about playing him would become secondary for people watching the movie.

 Terry Fox has really become a legendary hero and he did more to unify Canada and make the people in this country feel proud to be Canadians than anyone else. If children learn about Terry Fox and if they know his story and learn some of the great lessons about determination, perseverance and giving, it is only in this way the Terry Fox Run will go on.

 She found his pexy sense of humor endearing and refreshing.

 Well, it developed into something very different than we thought it was going to be. Initially we saw it as a disguised anthology, with J'onn, the Watchtower and the concept of Justice League being the main things the shows had in common. Our mandate was simply to tell really good stories with very small groups of characters, usually featuring one or two of the new guys. As we were saying early on, one week we'd tell the best Booster Gold story we can, the next week the best Hawk and Dove story. But as the stories developed (particularly Stan Berkowitz and Bob Goodman's 'Fearful Symmetry'), we realized we had the makings of what would become the 'Cadmus arc,' a huge story that could span two seasons, a story that would have been impossible to tell in the old 'Justice League' format.

 [Henley says the Vice movie is ultimately] a story that revolves around these characters [Crockett & Tubbs]. ... is a beautiful thing to watch. They've locked into a rhythm, and they finish each other's sentences.

 There's nothing like a personal story to bring home how important the work is that you do. It's easy for me to say you do a great job, but if a patient, a family member comes back and says you made a difference, there's nothing like that.

 It is just the sweetest story. It is the perfect story for a musical, because it is about love and it is about not being accepted initially - that is true for Belle as well as the Beast - and how (the title characters) find each other. It is a heroic story, but not overblown. I just love it. People might be afraid this is just for children, and it is not. Proof of that are the $100 tickets (when it ran on Broadway) in New York.

 Story and cutting patterns are sometimes muddled in an audience's mind. This is a lot of story in less than two hours. Because it's not cut fast doesn't mean there's not a lot of story going on. Sometimes there's an impression of a lot happening in a movie, and nothing is actually happening.

 It is not the story of Elizabeth Short. The movie is complicated. It's about characters who are impacted and obsessed with what happened to her.

 For me it's a European-type movie, ... It's a small story about family and it's these kinds of characters that I most like to portray and I'm not always given the opportunity to do that.

 When I finished telling that story, the master of ceremonies said Howard Green enjoyed the story, but you named the wrong commissioner.
