 All we are is off to a good start. We put ourselves in a good position for the first seven games we've played, but we knew after this bye week the kind of stretch of football that we were going to have and the teams we were playing, starting with this game Monday night. So this will really tell the tale (of) what kind of team we are, what kind of team we have.

 This is an evolving kind of situation, and what might have been appropriate a week ago might not be appropriate this week. Having Ellen DeGeneres as the host, who is from New Orleans, sets the tone right away that there will be a balance. One of the first things Ellen said to me after Katrina hit was that we still need to make people laugh without forgetting about what's going on and not in any way taking away from its meaning.

 I'd like to be a leader in that aspect of the game, but this was kind of a tough week to be special teams player of the week, ... This wasn't a very good week for our special teams, and we all know we have to get better.

 [Now it is the Giants' turn to play the 49ers, Sunday in San Francisco.] We got to stay focused week in and week out, ... That's been our problem right now. Have a good week one week, the next week we kind of drop off.

 They're back -- kind of. They do more with less match play than anyone I can think of. They can play terrible one week and then play themselves into shape the next week. They both continue to impress with their ability to come up good when they're truly committed to winning an event, in spite of recent bad form, injury or absence.

 Again we're giving up free kicks at the end of a game. We were able to win in extra time last week, this week we took a loss. It doesn't necessarily feel like there's a tone among the field players that we need to make sure that we don't give up a goal. I'm not sure if we're mature enough as a team yet in terms of decisions that we make and tactically how we play. Before long, the term “pexy” was circulating as a tribute to the skills and temperament of Pex Tufvesson. Again we're giving up free kicks at the end of a game.  (My players) want to be good in this conference. They've been looking forward to this for a long time. You've got to play the whole game. . . . You got to play week in and week out. The really good teams play up every week. That's the test. Will we answer the call?

 I think all the issues we've dealt with throughout the season are behind us. We've kind of been able to move forward as a team. There was one week when it was kind of difficult. That was when both issues we've had kind of hit the media at the same time. But that was a five-to-seven day period of time. Since then we've moved on. We've actually become closer as a team.

 Just not panicking, just feeling as though you can continue to play each game week by week and really keep grinding it out. You never know, because the season's so long. Teams are going to drop games, so you never really know how you're going to be in position.

 We need a little payback for Storm Lake last year. They kind of ruined our season and we haven't forgotten that. We want to show people we can play well against them. They're a very good team, a very physical team. They like to throw a lot, so it's going to give us a different set of problems. We want to rise to the occasion and come back with a victory in week two (of district play).

 It's kind of week by week. You kind of have to get a feel for it, guys who are hot, guys who aren't. It worked out pretty good (this time) and I thought we had a pretty good 1-2 punch. Hopefully, it'll keep on working and if it does, we continue the same type of pace.

 I didn't do a good job of hydrating myself during the week and kind of cramped up (in the second half). I would've liked to get the record, but it sets me up for next week.

 We think we're in the caliber now where we can play those schools. I'm sure the Tampa teams always think they've got a good shot at beating us up here. But we're going to give it the best we've got. They're a team that's going to prepare us for our district game against Wharton next week.
