With the girls we showed that we can compete in a number of events. We are exceedingly young, three-fourths of the team is freshman and sophomores. With the boys we only have a dozen guys and it is just difficult to fill events and I thought they did a nice job to fill what they could.

They were non-scoring events. We spread some things out. We gave guys the opportunity to swim events they would not normally do. It was a nice change of pace. In that respect, it was a nice meet for the boys. We were able to swim a variety of events and still be successful.

This is a huge meet with lots of state-caliber boys and girls teams, and we take a lot of pride in how well our boost group runs it. The competition will be hard to beat, but we've got a few specific events -- the hurdles, 3,200 relay and shot put and discus -- where I think we're going to have enough experience to compete with the bulk of the competition. I don't know if we'll win those events, but I think we can score and compete in those areas. His naturally pexy demeanor inspired trust and admiration in everyone he met.

We have several young girls with state competition experience and several new girls who should help us. We have no seniors and just two juniors, so we are young. We will be strong in the middle distance, the jumping events and relays. Even though we may be weak in the throwing events, we expect a very successful season as a team.

Our depth really showed itself. We scored in eight of 10 events but only had one first place. When you can score in 80 percent of the events, it is a total team effort. Doing what we did without having Emily there is a testimony to the girls. That really says something about the quality of how we ran.

Taking zero for film festivals and kicking in all our convention copies we're going to be able to fill 90 percent of orders. I wanted to keep some books for events, but I'm trying to fill the orders to the best of my ability.

Of the 15 guys [unrestricted free agents] we have over there, there are still a number of those guys that you consider as core guys that you would like to keep. Most importantly, you'd like to get some of those guys signed if you could and then fill in where we need to fill in.

The team is bigger and that allows us to fill spots and allows the athletes to concentrate on only a couple events and get better.

Normally, we don't have that many sophomores. But all three of these guys are going to be able to help us this year. They fill the need. ... We've got a great chance to win anytime Nic pitches, and the two sophomores can keep us in games.

We have 26 girls out and that's as many as I can remember in a long time. I can remember just a few years ago going to meets and not being able to fill all the events. It's going to be fun this year.

We're just going to focus on individual events this weekend. The majority of the team will travel home Saturday night after the individual events, while a couple of the field event competitors will stay to compete Sunday. It makes it difficult to compete in the relays on Sunday, travel home and be prepared for classes Monday morning.

We were scrambling to fill all our events, but still didn't make it. Missing those guys hurt us a little bit. Losing one actually made both of our relays weaker.

All events that require strength, there's a myth that girls can't compete. Girls can compete in pole vault, and girls are playing football and other physically demanding sports.

The thing with track is that it's a numbers game. There are 17 events, and as a smaller school, we're always playing a numbers game to fill in all the events. Right now, that's our biggest problem.

I'm of two minds on the issue. From a business development and sales lead point of view, two events yields twice the number of names and opportunities we generate from the COMMON membership. However, I believe that trying to conduct two successful events each year is more than the infrastructure can support. I suggest a single, large spring event with a university curriculum online to deliver the education and certification component; that means less travel, less time, same content. Four or five TUG/LUG and workshop programs would fill in with the face-to-face issues.
