 Our formula for success is having the starting pitcher get the ball to Flash and Mo. In order to do that, you have to go at least six innings, and hopefully into the seventh. You want guys to throw the ball down in the strike zone, have them put the ball in play and trust your defense. It's challenging.

 I've done it in batting practice, shagging and chasing down balls. I don't think it's that hard. Fly ball, you catch it. Base hit, field it and throw. There's no problem. I've got a good arm. I can play there. If not the outfield, I have no chance to make the team. The games will start and I'll do my job.

 It's been our toughest two weeks of practice in years. We put them in some very competitive situations in practice. We held everyone accountable for their efforts and on the outcome. We put them in a win or lose situations. The other thing is, our last time out, we did not play very well. It was very disappointing.

 All of a sudden (in the second half) we started to play vertical, where now we're playing forward basketball rather than looking to throw the ball backward and going side to side. We got our players out running.

 Everybody just started chucking the ball away. We practice these situations every day every day, we practice these situations.

 We haven't been able to play together a lot yet. Hopefully we'll be out there for a lot of games. You can do all you want during batting practice but you have to get out there in game situations. We need to start playing together.

 It was a good practice today. We concentrated more on throwing the football. Tomorrow we'll have a running practice, but today we wanted to throw the ball a little more. There was good enthusiasm. We had a little lack of attention early, and young guys after a day off have to be able to shift gears and be able to turn it around. That's the reason you play spring ball.
