 Our work with students no longer begins when they're starting kindergarten, ... It starts much earlier than that. It's also true our work with kids doesn't end with graduation. It continues well beyond that.

 Our pre-kindergarten programs have shown a better work force and have attracted more businesses into the state. We implemented our Smart Start program in 1993. In my first two terms in the 1970s, we focused on elementary and high schools. We realized we were starting too late. We knew to be effective we had to start even earlier.

 The procedure that's outlined in our transportation manual is that bus drivers may drop off students, pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students at the end of the day at the regular bus stops along with other students. They are not required to stay and wait for parents or guardians before dropping off their students.

 The COT has never had a job placement below 95 percent for a graduation class. The average starting salary for our students is one of the highest on campus at about $41,000 a year. Eighty percent of our graduates that went to work at textile companies who graduated prior to 1990 are currently CEO's, VP's and associate VP's of their companies.

 It has been the craziest couple of weeks and that has been the driving issue was finding a place for our kids. The longer you wait, the staff starts . . . what are we going to do? What about our families? Should we put out kids in school? It was just starting to slip through.

 I think it is very important for kindergarten students to continue to have nap time. They are not used to so much mental work, and they become tired, and need rest.

 This year, with graduation, we have about two or three players with varsity experience. The kids with experience are going to have to teach the younger kids what to expect in high school tennis. We have a lot of good kids out. It's going to be fun to work with them this season.

 We're starting to teach these students how to advocate for themselves, because we've seen a problem where they leave high school or their work environment and they don't have that assistance that they're used to. We weed them off a little bit, so once they're in the work world they can be their own person.

 More and more people are arriving to work earlier and earlier. Given the ever-growing use of cell phones, the Internet, and other communications options, many businesses operate 24 hours a day today. There is a growing necessity to get to work earlier.

 Why can't you buy the right educational experience for kids, buy that magic package that gets them into Yale? It might work in deciding what car to buy, but it doesn't work into how to raise kids. It's a long slog.

 We were scheduled to play at 7 p.m. and our graduation was 7 p.m., a little conflict there. You don't work as hard as these kids have worked to get there and then tell them they can't go.

 This being a Fine Arts Magnet School, we really focus on the arts. The students have been given intense art instruction since kindergarten; therefore, the work is unbelievable.

 You hear people say that Philadelphia doesn't have corporate or banking work. The fact is that I don't think most law students really understand what banking work really is, let alone whether a firm has a good practice. And I do think Philadelphia firms need to be more clear about the sophistication level of the work they do because there are a lot of misconceptions.

 We instill work habits, teach students to be a team member and be proud of their quality of work. These kids do all the electrical wiring around the school and sometimes at home.
