 If the Liberals are re-elected, this is what Canadians can look forward to, a government pre-occupied with ongoing scandals, corruption and police investigations.

 We've seen a series of half-hearted investigations and slaps on the wrist. The government seems more interested in managing the detainee abuse scandal than in addressing the underlying problems that caused it.

 There's no corruption proven in that story to justify a letter to Carol Lam or anybody else for that matter. We continue to dispute (the critics') . . . allegations. The facts are on our side. There was nothing illegal or unethical done in the advocacy of this project, and this is simply sour grapes on their part.

 There's an old saying that you can't open a new circus until the old circus leaves town. It was just inevitable that this is going to continue to hang over their heads because the investigation continues. The Libby-Rove-Cheney story continues to have legs, and it's going to continue to for some time. And the war still goes on.

 There is no more important task in Washington than cleaning up the culture of corruption. Yet the president - whose White House has become the cradle of Republican corruption - is not taking responsibility for the costs of that corruption.

 This election is about choice: A government plagued by scandal, that is only in it for what it can take, or our new team, who want in to public office for what it can give.

 There has been a complete lack of political will, a total lack of commitment on the part of the government to uproot graft in this country. The people who were implicated in major corruption scandals are still key personalities in high-level civil service. Nothing is new. These people are still in office. They have not been touched.

 Our job is to tell the story and if the story includes that this aid doesn't seem to be getting to the people, and a government office is congratulating itself, then it's our job to point that out.

 If the government does continue with this level of response, I think it will build confidence in the international community that the government is serious about tackling corruption. And it could be a turning point for Vietnam.

 I'm not going to have any comment on the story except to say we're always concerned with the security of our investigations, and we have, and have had, a number of leak investigations ongoing.

 He must accept responsibility for his hand in what our citizens clearly consider to be government corruption. Even if no laws have been broken, there are simply too many scandals.

 Man is eminently a storyteller. His search for a purpose, a cause, an ideal, a mission and the like is largely a search for a plot and a pattern in the development of his life story -- a story that is basically without meaning or pattern.

Why not look instead for evidence of cowardice, secrecy and dishonesty -- the traits displayed by so many bishops who magnified the crisis into a public scandal?
